This week's listing features Parker pens through the decades spanning the greater part of the twentieth century (1910s-80s). As always, these pens are all restored (except the new old-stock 61, see below) and ready to write.

Condition (n.b.): All pens listed below have been disassembled, cleaned and restored with new sacs/diaphragms installed in the last couple months – except #6, which is sacless by design, uninked, and being sold as fully operational or your money back. Each is guaranteed to fill and write as designed without leaks or other issues. These pens have no cracks, chips, personal engravings (except #4), missing parts, bent nibs, misaligned tines, or threading issues.

1. 1910s Jack-Knife Safety #20 (smooth BHR, GPT, button filler, 14k XF Superflex nib).** Measures 5 1/4" capped. This is one of Parker's early, smooth hard rubber pens, manufactured roughly 3 decades after the company was founded in 1888. The barrel bears a 'Lucky Curve' imprint signifying Parker's patented Lucky Curve feed while the cap bears a 'Jack-Knife Safety' imprint signifying their patented, leak-proof cap. Bandless from the factory with gold-plated clip bearing 1916 patent date. This pen is a button filler, filled by removing the blindcap and depressing the brass button to compress the sac inside. 14k Parker Lucky Curve #2 nib with teardrop breather is an ideal choice for calligraphic writing styles, which were en vogue at the time. It's a Super-Flexible writer, laying down a smooth and consistent XF line that widens to a BBB+ under light pressure (see [writing sample](https://imgur.com/KOYuw9M)). Capable of needlepoint hairlines, strong snapback, and precise control over the line. **Condition:** excellent. No brassing to the clip (a rarity on these). Hard rubber retains smooth, lustrous finish with no deep scratches and deep black color with minimal fading. The only thing keeping this pen from being graded near-mint is wear to the imprints. Barrel imprint is weak, but stronger than is captured in the photo and still mostly legible under bright light. Cap imprint is a bit stronger, being fully legible. On the whole, it's an exceptionally well-preserved pen for being 100 yrs old. And the expressive nib is sure to please. Price: $230 SOLD

2. 1925-6 Duofold Jr. Set (Permanite pen, HR pencil, GPT, button filler, 14k F Semi-Flex nib).** Pen measures 4 5/8" capped and 5 3/4" posted. Pencil measures 5 1/4". Parker's best-selling, iconic pen from the roaring 20s was first made available in 2 sizes: the oversized Senior and the Junior model. Despite its name, the latter is pretty hefty by vintage standards, its girth being commensurable to that of many oversized pens of the era. This pen and pencil came from the same estate. But the pen is made of Permanite, which debuted en masse in 1925, while the pencil is made of red hard rubber. A flush cap band would come to replace the raised cap band on Duofolds in 1927, indicating 1925-6 manufacture for this pen. It's more than likely, then, that this pen and pencil were originally purchased together as a set during Parker's transition to Permanite, when there was still an overstock of hard rubber pencils left over in the warehouse (pens vastly outsold the pencils). The pen is a button filler, filled by removing the blindcap and depressing the brass button to compress the sac inside. The 14k Parker Duofold nib lays down a smooth and consistent F line that's slightly stubby and capable of semi-flexible variation (see writing sample). Pencil is fully operational, retracting, propelling, and gripping lead as designed. Removing the cap top reveals a fully intact eraser. Condition: Pen shows no brassing aside from the typical slivers to the clip ball and around the bottom edge of the cap band. Polished up, these are virtually undetectable. Pencil exhibits no brassing whatsoever aside from a sliver to the clip ball. Hard rubber blind cap and crown on the pen are nice and black. Smooth, lustrous finish and sharp, fully legible imprints on both pen and pencil. Price: $160 SOLD @ BAPC

3. 1939 Slender Challenger (blue marble, GPT, button filler, 14k XXF Semi-Flex nib).** Measure 4 3/4" capped and 5 9/16" posted. Marketed alongside the pioneering Vacumatic as a quality pen at a more affordable price, the Challenger was offered in an array of colorful celluloids – a hallmark of 1930s Parkers. Blue, which was only made for one year, is the scarcest of these. The beautiful depth and vibrancy of this color is difficult to capture in person. Parker saved on manufacturing costs by equipping these models with their tried-and-true button filling mechanism – the same to be found on Duofolds from the 20s. The pen is filled by removing the blindcap and depressing the brass button to compress the sac inside. 14k Parker Pen nib lays down a buttery smooth and consistent XXF line with semi-flexible variation – a desirable characteristic for such a fine nib, softening its contact with the paper (see [writing sample](https://imgur.com/5NuQmQR)). **Condition:** excellent. No brassing to the trim aside from a sliver around the bottom edge of the cap band. Smooth, lustrous finish with no deep blemishes and sharp, fully-legible imprint. Price: $80 SOLD

4. 1940 (1st Yr) Vacumatic Duofold Senior (celluloid, Dusty Red, GPT, Vacumatic speedline filler, 14k XF Semi-Flex nib).** A decade after the Big Red icon was phased out (see#2), the Duofold returned to its former glory as a colorful celluloid pen with Vacumatic innards and transparent barrel striations for viewing the ink level. Manufactured for only 2 years, this first version of the striped Duofold Vacumatic commands a bit more than do the later models, owing partly to its scarcity and partly to its cosmetic and functional accouterments. It's distinguished from later models by having "double jewels," an aluminum Speedline Vacumatic filling mechanism, and triple cap bands with wide center band. This premier, Senior model measures 5 5/16" capped and carries a blue diamond clip signifying Parker's lifetime guarantee. Proper 14k Parker Pen nib lays down a buttery smooth and consistent XF line with semi-flexible variation (see writing sample). Condition: No brassing to the trim aside from a sliver on the bottom edge of 1/2 the cap band and another around 1/2 of the blindcap tassie. Barrel transparency is superb, with breather tube/ink level clearly visible and only slightly ambered to orange. Smooth, lustrous finish with no significant blemishes and sharp, fully-legible imprint. Barrel bears the professional heatstamp of one Lt. W.M. Morgan (see detail photo: https://imgur.com/G8WgLC1)). After some cursory research, I learned that W.M. Morgan was a pilot who tested some of the first American fighter jets in WWII. The imprint is of no little historical interest, so I've merely filled it in with black china marker to preserve it while making it less conspicuous. The filling is durable, but can easily be removed with a toothbrush to reveal the original gold filling beneath, which matches the gold furniture of this pen. An well-preserved piece of history and a lovely writer. Price: $180 SOLD

5. 1948 P51 Aerometric Set (Lucite, black, Lustraloy cap, Aerometric filler, 14k XF nib).** Pen measures just shy of 5 1/2" capped. Pencil measures 5 1/4". Although it bears a 1948 date code on the barrel, set is representative of the Parker 51 model that would come to define their 1950s workhorse: Aerometric filler with clutch-activated Lustraloy cap and matching repeater (push-cap) pencil. Pen fills like a converter: just unscrew the barrel, submerge the nib, and depress the button on the filler 6 times. Firm 14k nib lays down a smooth and consistent XF line (see [writing sample](https://imgur.com/pvHz8vK)). **Condition:** Caps are clean with no dents or dings. Just some microscratching and professional monogram ('JHM') etched below the clips. Smooth, lustrous finish to the barrels. Sharp imprint on the barrel of the pen. Pen is fully operational but pencil appears to be jammed: holds and retracts but does not propel lead. Pencil also shows a couple pin-sized nicks to the clip. You'd be hard pressed to find a more reliable EDC. And with a bit of tinkering, perhaps pencil can be salvaged too. Price: $80 SOLD

6. 1962-8 Parker 61 Mark II – Uninked (Grey, Lustraloy cap, Capillary filler, F/M 14k nib). Parker’s space-age follow-up to the 51, similarly sized 61 (5 5/16” capped) featured an innovative capillary filler that was complex in design but simple to use. The barrel unscrews to reveal a Teflon-coated cylinder that houses the proprietary “capillary cell” (“a sheet of plastic that has been perforated, embossed with a 3-D pattern resembling safety tread, and rolled up” –Richard Binder). Just dip the cylinder and it does the rest, absorbing the ink from the bottle. The Teflon coating of the filler housing acts to shed ink when the filler is removed from the bottle for a clean fill (no wiping necessary!). As you can see from the fillers photo, the capillary cell is pink with no signs of ink. Nor did I find any ink residue when inspecting and swabbing the inside of the cap or when dipping the nib in water. I think it’s safe to say that this pen has never been inked. For this reason, I have not filled or dipped it for a writing sample. But the nib appears to be a rigid yet smooth F/EF based on the size of the tipping (If you’re certain you’d like to purchase this pen but would like me to dip-test the nib and tune if needed, I’d be happy to oblige before mailing it out). Condition: near-mint/uninked, with no discernible wear to the frosting on the cap, and not even any microscratches on the barrel – just a couple on the hood from the cap clutch mechanism. Like-new condition, as though someone removed the stickers then stowed it away in a box for safe-keeping all these years. Price: $75 SOLD

7. 1985 Parker 75 Sterling Ciselé (sterling silver w/ GF trim, catridge-converter filler, 14k M nib). Measures 5 1/16" capped. From its inception in 1964, the sterling ciselé Parker 75 was an instant classic – hence its enduring presence in the decades to follow. Thanks to the resumption of date codes on Parker pens in the 80s, the date of manufacture for this French 75 can be narrowed down to the first quarter of 1985 (TE). Thick sterling in 3D ciselé motif is not only fetching but rugged, with a substantial heft in the hand. This is a cartridge-converter filler and I've purchased and installed a brand new twist-filling Parker cartridge in the correct size. 18k M nib lays down a buttery smooth and consistent M line (as marked on the back of the feed) - see writing sample. Condition: excellent+. No dents, dings, or anything more unsightly than some microscratches on the plastic section from the cap clutch mechanism. Price: $125 SOLD
