c.1915 Boston Safety #12 Eyedropper (BCHR, NPT, eyedropper, 14k EF Semi-flex nib). Before it was acquired by Wahl in 1917, the Boston Pen Company manufactured high quality pens with design features such as their patented Roller-Clip, which would later be retrofitted by Wahl. This #12 eyedropper is the long model, measuring 5 1/4” capped. It’s made of black chased hard rubber, features a Roller-Clip on the threaded cap marked ‘German Silver’, and exhibits 1904 patent dates on the barrel and cap. ‘Boston Safety Fountain Pen’ takes up the first of the 2 line imprint on the barrel (I’ve read that this is one of the later imprints). Semi-flex 14k ‘Boston Safety 2’ nib with good iridium lays down a smooth and consistent EF line (see writing sample).
Condition is excellent. No cracks, chips, personal engravings, missing parts, bent/misaligned tines, or threading issues. Hard rubber retains its deep black color with virtually no oxidation. Imprints are crisp and deep as is the chasing on the cap while that of the barrel is somewhat weaker. No significant scratches or chips and only minor high point wear to the clip. A well-preserved example of a rather scarce pen.
