View Full Version : Surprised by how many Italians I have accumulated!

I just recently added the Stipula Passoporto (the one I 'so bravely' took apart and re-seated the nib/feed and bragged about in the repair thread!).
I just ordered the Stipula Israel 65, FP for me, BP for the husband who refuses to try fountain pens!

Then, this morning, I picked up my Pentrace 2004 LE, it's filled with some of the new formula PR avocado, and it started right up...I am guilty of letting it sit for way too long! I currently have the Binder-ized stub nib on it.

Anyway, I started thinking about how many Italians I do have.....
Delta (2)
Aurora (2)
Stipula (2)
Filcao (3)....don't hear much from Filcao anymore?

I just got a Filcao in trade, though I haven't had time to really use it yet. It seems like a nice pen.

I also have Auroras and Omas. The Italian pens are very addicting.

You're going to love this one - a real favorite of mine (14k / 1.1 italic nib). Stipula nibs are a pleasure.

I dun gots me a bunch of dem Italians, ha, ha, ha

darn it, i'm down stairs and my inventory is upstairs, but I bet I have at least 5-9 Italians, maybe more!

I REALLY Like them, my Aurora Afrika 525 is in Italy right now for major repairs!

But by and large I've been lucky in the QC department with all my pens doing well....

Ten Visconti's in just over 12 months, another one on it's way, and plans for quite a few more.

Sounds like addiction to me

No thanks to Tracy Lee,
A big bunch of Visconti.
Four Delta. - that should have read five !
A Stipula.

Mrs Bogon also has some Renzetti & other un-branded Italian pens.
And a Monteverde just because she bought it in Italy and puts on an Italian accent when she uses it.

I don't have nearly enough Italian pens. Need to catch up. Just sent a deposit for a Visconti today. I'd like to take things slow when a seller would indulge me. :p After all, my last Visconti is not inked up yet.

It recently came from Italy so the dust will be fresh and strong. And watch out for Tracy Lee she sprinkles both Visconti & Delta dust in her letters ( I shudder to think what the out come of this year's InCoWriMo will be but V&D will be happy)

Well, I'm pacing myself - it won't arrive until sometime in March.

I have had more Italians than I have now, but I was married to one once - the American Italian variety. Good times, good times.

The Italians that survived the recent Purge are an Aurora Optima (silver trim with a gold nib (thanks, Ricky!)) and a Marlen Journal.

I like Italian pens, but I don't like having so many pens. (I know - crazy talk.)

Maybe all-y'all influenced me, maybe not, but walked into the local fine pen shop this afternoon wanting to buy ink (was out of what I wanted), but looking around saw a sweet little Delta Vintage, this pretty little sweet green thing, so snapped that right up.

Was told it was a fine nib. It is a medium. Some ink flow problems.

I expect pens to write without skipping or problems out of the box. Oh well. I will go back to the shop and swap the nib for a fine. It isn't really a big deal, and the pen is such a beautiful little pen, but I could see how such an experience might put someone else out. (Not saying that these issues are exclusive to Italian pens. This thread happens to be on my radar, and I happened to buy a Delta, and so.... Life goes on.)

I have three Filcao's, going on four. The boutique brand has been around since 1969 with Franco Grisalia at the helm. That's an amazing run. I have the Columbia, Silvia, 2004 Pentrace LE, and coming soon, the Kameleon.

I also, of course, have Visconti Wallstreet, Stipula Model T, Aurora Optima, and a nice little Delta Solaris in blue.

Italians all have flair. The nibs can be quite worth visiting also.

Ye gads - with the new green tapeworm - 39 too. :jaw:
The Purple Rembrandt is Mrs Bogon's so technically the count is only 38.
There is another Visconti penciled in for September so you will have to get a few more soon.
What is more worrying is the fast grow pile of Deltas, now up to 8.

In January I wrote that I balanced out the average by having none. Now I have one Delta and the nearest I have ever gotten to an Omas was when I put an Omas nib onto a Sheaffer body for a friend. Also I have been permitted to handle a Visconti. This limited experience gives me a fairly clear understanding of why you all find Italian pens so desirable. They combine modern materials and techniques with heritage craftsmanship to make items of outstanding beauty and utility, which succeed in being showy without being gaudy.
