1. 1927-9 Parker Duofold Sr. Transitional (Lapis blue-on-blue, GPT, button filler, 14k XXF/XF nib). By vintage standards, this is a very large pen, measuring 5 1/2" capped. Backstory: Two variants of the Lapis Blue color are known to exist for the Duofold: the more common white-on-blue (blue with white flecks); and blue-on-blue (blue with blue flecks), which was manufactured for only about a year after being introduced in 1927 and is only catalogued on flat top Duofolds. We also know that the single cap band was supplanted by the thin double cap bands on the Duofold in 1928, and that Streamlined Duofolds took the place of flat top Duofolds in 1929. This Duofold Senior is a bit of a curiosity. It has the tapered profile and smooth, tapered end caps of a Streamlined model with the following earlier (flat top) features: blue-on-blue color, single flush cap band, Lucky Curve banner imprint, longer length of the flat top, and thickly chamfered section. Everything fits and threads together as it should and there's no evidence of aftermarket tampering. After consulting parkerpens.net and posting a thread about this pen on FPN, the consensus points to it being a transitional model made up of overstock flat top parts. In other words, it left the factory with a blue-on-blue flat top Duofold barrel and cap that Parker had modified to fit the threaded ends of their new Streamlined model, replete with updated clip. It's an uncommon and uncommonly fetching combination. This oversized pen is equipped with a commensurably oversized Duofold Sr. nib, which lays down a smooth and consistent XXF/XF line (see writing sample below). Condition: Despite some darkening to the barrel, the blue-on-blue color is much more vibrant in person. Below are a couple photos that more accurately capture the color of this pen. No brassing on the clip, but the bottom of the cap band shows brassing to roughly 1/3 of the total surface. Aside from that, this pen is in beautiful shape. Plastic has a smooth, lustrous finish with no notable blemishes and the imprint is sharp and deep. An unusual variant of this iconic pen.

3. 1937 Parker Vacumatic Slender Maxima Price: SOLD

4. 1920s Sheaffer Oversized Lifetime Flat Top (black, GPT, lever filler, 14k XXF/XF nib). Measures a hair over 5 1/4" capped and comparable in girth to a Duofold Sr. (#1). A well-preserved example of Sheaffer's premier pen of the 20s, featuring oversized 14k Lifetime nib and white-dot on top of the cap. That nib lays down a smooth and consistent XXF/XF line (see writing sample). Condition: No brassing to the trim aside from a dot on the side of the clip ball and a sliver on the bottom edge of the cap band on the back of the cap. No brassing on the lever but 2 scratches are present near the hinge. Smooth lustrous finish with only a couple short scratches next to the top of the clip. Barrel imprint remains sharp and fully legible. A lovely writer in collector-grade condition.

SOLD

5. c.1936 Sheaffer Oversized Balance Premier (black, GPT, lever filler, 14k XXF/XF nib). Measures 5 1/2" capped. The streamlined successor to the 20s flat top (#4), this is an example of Sheaffer's largest Balance, featuring oversized 14k Lifetime nib and white-dot above the clip. That nib lays down a smooth and consistent XF line (see writing sample below). Condition: No brassing on the trim aside from the bottom edge of the clip ball and a couple virtually indiscernible slivers to the edge of the cap band on the sides of the cap visible under a loupe. Celluloid exhibits a smooth, lustrous finish with no notable blemishes - scarcely any micro-scratches even. Sharp, fully legible imprint. Another lovely writer in collector-grade condition.
