Condition (n.b.): All pens listed below have been disassembled, cleaned and restored with new sacs installed in the last couple weeks. Each is guaranteed to fill and write as designed without leaks or other issues. Nibs have been adjusted when necessary to ensure that all lay down a smooth and consistent line. These pens have no cracks, chips, personal engravings, missing parts, bent nibs, misaligned tines, or threading issues.

1. 1920s Chilton Red Top SOLD

2. 1920s Conklin Endura (Sapphire, GPT, lever filler, 14k XF nib). This is one of the shorter models, measuring roughly 4 1/2” capped. It’s made of Pyroxlin in a color Conklin called “Sapphire,” evoking the deep, lustrous “blue” of the gemstone. Innovative rocker clip is hinged to make it easy to slide into the pocket. Wide gold band and annular red lines add to the charm of this pen, which has a nice heft in the hand. 14k Endura nib with crescent-shaped breather is firm but buttery smooth, laying down an XF line with unfalteringly consistent flow (see writing sample below). Condition: excellent. No brassing aside from slivers at top and bottom of the clip. A hint of edge wear to the bottom of the cap band visible under a loupe. Deep, fully legible imprint and smooth, lustrous finish to the surface. Annular rings restored to their original red color. Price: $120 SOLD

3. c.1930 Conklin Endura Symetrik (green marbled, GPT, lever filler, 14k XF Semi-Flex nib). This is the full-sized model, measuring 5 1/8” capped. A fine example of Conklin’s premier range of pens from the 30s, with gold inlaid crescent logo on the cap. A motif elegantly repeated on the lever and breather hole, hearkening back to the Conklin Crescent-Filler: the pen that put the company on the map. Semi-Flex 14k Conklin Endura nib lays down a smooth and consistent XF line with mild variation under pressure (see writing sample below). Condition: excellent, with no wear to the trim aside from a couple tiny slivers of brassing to the clip (about 2mm long). Deep, fully legible imprint and smooth, lustrous finish to the celluloid. Price: $140

4. 1950s NOS James Grey Cracked Ice (grey cracked ice celluloid, GPT, button filler, 18k F nib). Measures 5 1/4” capped. I know very little about the James pen company aside from the fact that it was based in France. This high quality pen is new old stock, retaining the original sticker on the cap, but it has been re-sacced and inked. Strikingly beautiful celluloid resembles what is commonly called cracked ice: iridescent grey marble portions akin to stone with black veins/fracture patterns. This pen is a button filler: blindcap unscrews to reveal a threaded plastic button, which is depressed to compress the sac inside, filling it with ink when the sac re-inflates. Firm 18k Warranted nib lays down a smooth and consistent XF/F line (see writing sample below). Condition: excellent. Gold-plated trim is very clean, with only negligible high point wear on the cap rings and sides of the clip. Smooth, lustrous finish and deep, fully legible imprint. Price: $70 SOLD
