Maybe some Parker aficionados have some explanation for this:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Silver-SS-Parker-VTG-1942-Fountain-Pen-2-Jewel-Blue-Diamond-Vacumatic-/111077239663?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item19dcb82b6f

(crazy conspiracies are welcome as well :))
Thanks!

Looks more to me like a Brad Torelli.

They have put the clarification that it might not actually be a "real" vintage pen in a non-too-prominent position.

I can't say I would care, I would still be attracted to it, "modern adaptation" or not...

Their comment at the bottom "A PARKER PEN EXPERT CONTACTED ME TO TELL ME THAT THIS PEN WAS NOT MADE IN THE 1940S BUT IS PROBABLY A MORE MODERN ADAPTATION OF A PARKER PEN USING PARKER PARTS...." explains why it wasn't melted down for the War Effort! :crazy_pilot:

And it finished at $936. Someone really wanted it. No I guess - several people really wanted it.

I wonder if I could do that with some chrome spray paint? Just kidding!

Hah! "And they thought I was mad!!"

Manny, you are of such good spirit and heart, and you have some beautiful pens. I have a proposal, which I hope you'll accept (at least consider) unless you deem it too complex: I'd like to pay it forward.

I feel fortunate to have had a couple of nice pens come my way in the last week or two, and I've been restoring a few that I had picked up over the last year. As a result, I have plenty of pen goodness to keep me busy. Why would I want to have an embarrassment of riches? You have some very nice pens to choose from, and somehow it seems to me that the opportunity to write with one of these for a while should go to a well-meaning person who simply hasn't had, or won't soon have, that particular opportunity. I see no reason to be greedy.

I'd love for you to allow one of those pens to be auditioned by someone more worthy of the moment. Let me know if you think this is possible, or if I'm just making things nuts. I love you for the kind offer, and it is the type of thing I value so much in this group of people. I simply want to it to go to someone who might not already have the availability of such nice writing instruments.

Let me know, either in the thread or PM (feel free to type).

Warm regards,
Jon

P.S. I knew it would go high. I didn't think that high!

Addendum:

Over on the FPB, a "George" posted the following regarding the pen in the auction:

The pen is an all Titanium pen made By Brad Torelli. I'm pretty sure it was made in 2001 as a special edition for Fountain Pen Hospital in New York. The retail price on this pen is $1500. The intended FPH production run was going to be 100 pens, but the series was limited to around 20.

Manny, you continue to be a 100% class act, and I honestly didn't mean to add any toil or angst. I think it was "The Kid" who recently started a PIF thread, and I'm working on some restorations to take part in that.

If we've been fortunate, the best thing we can do is share. It makes all the days better.
