Hi all,

I just won the auction for one of these. I was wondering about the 'authenticity' because I couldn't find any picture of it, well, other than the sellers pics. Searching on Google Image resulted only the tortoise M450, but none of these. There is no entry on Ruettinger either. What do you reckon.. Is it a frankenpen? Or just too ugly for anyone to care? :)

Here it is:

I really don't know the answer to your question as to authenticity but ugly? Nah. I really like that look even if it is a frankenpen.

Looks strikingly pretty for a gold cap pen to me. Then again I've only one Pelikan.

There was an image from 2006 of a M450 with a solid black body.

The gold tortoise looks stunning....I wish I hadn't seen this now. Would posting the gold cap make it unbalanced for writing ?

Although I can't find any info on this one either, one would really wonder who would have a spare gold (vermeil?) cap to put on a capless green Pelikan. Unless they really did not like the gold-toroise combination. Do you have a picture of the filler knob? I gather these are supposed to be gold as well if the pen is meant to have a gold cap.
Anyway, it's certainly not ugly. I would take it as it is and enjoy.

Most probably. Granted, most Omas pens are lighter than Pelikans, but when I post my silver-capped Ogiva (which I normally don't do anyway) it practically tips over backwards in my hand.

Thanks for that. I kinda like the Aussie green and gold theme, not so much in a nationalistic pride way, but more like aesthetic blingy way. Since its you bro, I gotta say that I got a pair of green and gold custom IEMs. I'll post a pic of them together if you're interested. :music:

I think it will, but hopefully not much. I'm not too worried because on 400 size it's hardly noticeable. A Toledo is only ~6 grams heavier. I always post my LAMY vista, so it can't be much worse than that, can it? The end cap is normal, and only has a single ring.

The ruttinger website isn't complete...maybe email him and you might help.

Yeah. I think I will, even if he might call me a noob (which i am) before common knowledge lol

And btw Peterpen53, yes the cap is vermeil.

Edit: A trusted seller told me that it's an old style M650 body (400 size but 18C nib with a single ring on filler knob) with a vermeil M450 cap. Or it's just a 'transitional' model, like a brown tortoise with single ring on the filler cap.

Nice IEMs too! UMs?

Thanks! Yup. Quad drivers. And AFAIK, UM also sourced fancy acrylic from Germany for the shell. German 'precious resin'? :)

Thanks Will! The pen was indeed an old style 600: fitted with an 18C old logo nib and with a single band on the section and filler knob. The cap is heavier as expected, but I can't say that it is unusable for posting (still in honeymoon period) but about 5 grams heavier. It is in absolutely mint condition, so I'm still mesmerized by it for completing "my roll" ... *giggles*

There aren't many companies making the medical-grade acrylic used in custom IEMs, so all the cIEMs have sources in common.

Your pen and IEMs look lovely together... I should get something to match my Hiditions now. :p

Rick has mentioned it. As tortoise, guess green too. I think it is very pretty!

Pardon the necropost and the repost (from this thread http://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/index.php/topic/252498-masters-of-the-fountain-pen/page-6#entry2815572 at FPN). It was intended as a tribute, or a parody, whichever you reckon.

Anyway, for future reference here's how a normal M450 looks like.

Agree with Tony that the barrel came with M600 old style body - same size with M400. This M450 vermeil (besides the M350, M600, M800 and M1050) came with green and black barrel. The later and recent M450 (cap with slightly thinner pinestripe pattern) came with tortoise barrel.

Despite the mismatch, the pen looks great! :thumb:

I did too mismatch M850 cap with brown tortoise barrel though! Ask Tony! :p
