I'm up for the challenge of fixing this. I like the way this pen looks so I'd like to try to fix it. The top finial is missing so you can see the hole in the cap.

I'm open to any suggestions on how to fix this.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190112/1c7cfd6c9b555c5c411f5ea7ba45d719.jpg

I don't know the brand or age of the pen, but among your options might be buying a replacement cap, or failing that, maybe buying a replacement finial.

If neither of those are possible or suitable for any reason, you could potentially ask a repairer with a lathe, to make something similar to what the original was, that will fit down into the cap where the original finial has broken off.

As a last resort you could simply sand it all flat with sandpaper, and glue a disc that is the right diameter, onto the top, with epoxy adhesive. That would make the cap airtight.

I'm thinking an attractive round button with a shank. And maybe just shellac it on, so it's reversible.

I was in a similar predicament a few years ago. I sanded the top flat and then took it to a local rock shop. I found a nice black faceted cabochon and glued it in place. It now looks much better than the original.

I doubt it would stay on if only shellacked. I can imagine one catch in a bag, or if you clipped it onto somewhere and caught it, the it would come off, and you might be out away from home. :(
