Northern California. We just felt the biggest earthquake we've ever felt. Long and hard shaking. No damage. Anyone feel that?

5.7? Yikes. Hope all are well. It is amazing how it just stays out of your head until it happens . . .

Things shook for a really long time... more than I can ever remember but so far no reports of damage.

I live on a fault that is overdue, but the most I have felt so far was a 4.2, and that was from the other side of LA. And not a big fan of roller coaster rides, either.

I was living in the Bay Area during the Loma Prieta quake. Yikes that was awful. I hope everyone is okay there.

Haven't heard reports of damage, good so far. I have friends in Arcata, so I'm keeping tabs. It's been a couple of years since our last big shaker down in SoCal, so I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Hang tough, NoCal.

Saw many FB reports from friends and family, we are in SF for a few days and missed it. I'm sure the cat didn't like it.

I hope everyone is okay. As a former Californian, I do remember the shakes. The biggest I've felt was a 6.2 in April of '84. I was living in San Jose at the time. It is something I will never forget.

Prayers out to all. I was living in Ventura for the 71 San Fernando quake and it split the garage off of the rest of the house and cracked the slab under both.

Last night's quake seems to have not caused any serious damage. Thanks for all the support. :)

Wasn't that up by Susanville? I live in the San Francisco Bay Area and didn't notice anything. Marsilius mentioned 5.7. Although considered moderate, it would certainly get one's immediate and undivided attention. Hope you are okay.

I remember that one, and was in San Jose when it hit. It was fairly strong and seemed to last forever. Something like 90 seconds, if I recall correctly, and did a lot of damage. I was living in San Jose when the Loma Prieta quake occurred in 1989, and thought the building I was in might collapse. It was far stronger than the Morgan Hill quake, but did not last nearly as long.

In 2010, a 7.2 quake struck near El Centro and Mexicali (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/04/04/mexicali-earthquake-69-qu_n_524815.html#s78478), to the east of us (San Diego). It occurred on Easter.

We were having dinner at my mother's house, and had invited a guest who had only lived in CA for about 6 months, having moved from Georgia. We were about to have dessert, and my brother-in-law said "well, guess we're having an earthquake"; I noticed the lamp over the table had started to swing. The guest jumps up - "An EARTHQUAKE??!!??" She runs screaming out the back door into the middle of the back yard. After about 1/2 a minute or so, things calmed down. We resumed eating our dessert.

"She'll come back in in a while, she's chain-smoking out on the lawn."

While one never really gets used to these things, one can get a better handle on just precisely when it's a good time to panic. Not that time.

I was in Fairfield and driving, I thought there was something wrong with my truck, I only found out later it was a quake...
