Condition Notes: All pens listed below have been disassembled, cleaned and restored with new sacs installed in the last couple weeks. Each is guaranteed to fill and write as designed without leaks or other issues. Nibs have been adjusted when necessary to ensure that all lay down a smooth and consistent line.

1930s InkPak Fountain Pen (Moss Agate, GPT, Inkpak filler, 14k XXF/XF Flex nib). Measures a lengthy 5 5/8" capped. This wild pen features a patented filling system that makes its own ink. A cap on the back of the barrel unscrews to reveal a compartment holding several metal cartridges, each packed with dry ink that lasts for multiple fillings. To fill, one inserts a cartridge into the hole in the bottom of the feed, then fills the pen with water using the lever. There is a notch in each cartridge for easy removal after all the ink is expended. The side of the barrel bears the imprint "INKPAK / PAT. PEND. / NEW YORK, NY." I haven't been able to turn up much of anything at all about this company. Nor have I been able to find one of these ever listed for sale, aside from a couple that appeared in Gary's catalogue about a decade ago. I think it's fair to call this a rare pen.

The pen itself is beautiful, featuring the same green and bronze celluloid pattern that Waterman called Moss Agate – the same used for their iconic Patrician model. Notwithstanding the unsung reputation of the InkPak company, it's a high quality pen with exquisite details and a nice heft in the hand. The crown of the cap is tapered like a Morrison's Patriot and it has a deluxe cap band configuration with one wide band that extends to the opening and another thin band above. Elegant clip with pyramidal Inkpak logo at the top. Correct 14k Inkpak nib is delightfully flexible, laying down a smooth and consistent XXF/XF line that widens to a 3B+ under moderate pressure (see writing sample, please forgive the smudging). This pen comes with 5 original cartridges. If one wishes to preserve 4 of them unused, the pen can simply be filled with ink instead of water after the first cartridge is spent. But to enable proper flow, a cartridge must be present in the feed. This may require a bit of sanding to one of the cartridges since they have accrued a layer of corrosion over time that makes them difficult to insert. But I'd be happy to clean one up and insert it before shipment on request.

Condition: No cracks, chips, or personal engravings in the celluloid. No missing parts, bent nib, misaligned tines, or threading issues. Restored with a new sac in the last month when I discovered a chip in the sac nipple inside the pen. The chip does not extend so far as to prevent the sac from sealing and the pen is guaranteed to fill and write as designed with no leaks or other problems. Celluloid has a smooth and lustrous finish with no discoloration, deep scratches, or other blemishes but for one small nick on the back edge of the black crown atop the cap (see 3rd photo). Plating is clean aside from: 2 pin-sized spots of brassing on the edges of the center of the lever, a hairsbreadth sliver around the top edge of the wide cap band, a spot where the plating has flaked off on the clip ball, and some pin-sized nicks on the clip. Imprint is deep, crisp, and fully legible with no discernible wear.

A wild pen that rarely comes up for sale for collectors of unusual filling systems.

Not at the moment, I'm afraid. The pen in my avatar is from my personal collection.
