From time to time, I was able to score nice pens from local auctions, estate sales, or flea market. Unfortunately that happens at the rate of about once or twice a year :)

This time, I have to give the credit to my sharp-eyed wife. She forwarded a photo of a fountain pen set from a local auction, and I can't believe my eyes.

After scoring the pen (a story in itself), this is what I see in person (no USPS wait, love local deals):

The set is unbelievably clean. The pencil works, and I just realized how elegant Eversharp mechanical pencils are. I thought the click-down Esterbrook pencil was amazing given their age, but this one is cooler with only the gold button on top acting as the clicking point. Just like a modern mechanical pencil.

And the fountain pen, it's just sublime, I knew these models are not as common and they are very pretty, but seeing one in person, a sample this clean, is a whole different experience.

The nib is interesting as well, it's small, but well adjusted for the ink flow, I never had a railroad or the tip of the feed touching the paper when I wrote in flex mode. And more interestingly, the engraving on the nib is not like the typical Skyline nib which features art-deco lines, this one looks older, like an old WAHL nib, heart shaped breather hole, and it just says EVERSHARP 14K. That's it. Beautiful flex, though! Which makes me even happier.

I love the Skyline shape, but until now I have not come across a beauty that I would like to posess. That one I would love.

Beautiful!!!!

Congratulations, penwash

A great find, what is the capped length on the pen?

I have a Wahl branded Skyline, with a Wahl nib. Here is a picture of it's nib.
Does your nib (shape minus writing) look something like this?:

Another "moire" set. This time it's the big one, 5.5 inches capped, which makes it the *not* Executive model (see my conversation with guyy in the following posts).

And I never thought I'd see a nib as fine as the finest Japanese nib in a vintage American pen. I'm still tuning it because it's scratchier than a surprised cat.

Writing sample will follow, when I get a ...

The Executive size measures about 15cm capped. To my knowledge, the Moire pattern was not available in that size.

Here’s a picture of a standard, Executive & a moire:

So a 5.5 inches capped is a Standard?

This is from PenHero.com: http://penhero.com/PenGallery/Eversharp/EversharpSkyline.htm

"Three pen sizes were made, Demi or Lady, Standard, and Executive, which are about 4 3/4 inches, 5 1/4 inches, and 5 1/2 inches long, respectively."

I like the cap much more than the barrel. To me the way the barrel seems to shorten to such a sharp point, makes it almost look a little small for the cap.
However, the colouring is very attractive. :)

I think the Pen Hero measurements are a little off, or perhaps there is variation, as you see with Balances. I get 12.5cm for my demis, 13.5cm for the standard and moire versions & 14.5cm for the executive sized. The demi size is pretty much the same as the Parker 51 demi, and the standard size is close to the length of the standard 51.

The Executive is a little thicker than the other pens, too. Measuring between the barrel threads and bump, i get about 11.6mm for the Executive and. 10.75mm for the others. The caps from the other pens won’t fit on the Executive.

The nibs and feeds are different as well. The Executive has a much larger nib than the Moire, which has the smallest of the Skyline nibs. The Executive has a thicker and longer feed to go with the larger nib. The Executive, standard and demi have the usual banner, T or teardrop nibs with hexagonal breather holes, while the Moire has a plainer nib wth a heart shaped breather hole.

These pens are beautiful. They must be fantastic at writing. I have one of these special LOCOMOTIVE designs and it writes eF non-flex.
It is fine but I am keeping this on a list to full -Flex Wet noodle style nib.
