So it arrived today !!!

I had a BB nib in it but there was no love loss as it was just to plain for me... and I need an expressive nib to make my poor handwriting look legible...

So here she is fresh of John Mottishaws table. A Nakaya Neo Standard in Heki-tamenuri finish with a Medium soft "elastic" nib.

I knew it was coming today so I had it sent to my work. UPS is always on time there and I had to be there till 11 tonight ugh... BUT I knew I would not miss the UPS man !!! Soooo I was actually on time today lol

Let me tell you, when I got home to some real paper it was pure magic! I wrote on some Clairfontaine, Tomoe, Rhodia & whats posted above... my Banditapple Carnet notebook. Smooth and wet and expressive and more. Thats a standard Platnium Blue/Black cart in the pen and it flows like a dream. I had it set to a 7/10 wetness.

I am so ecstatic with this pen right now I don't think I can sleep. I really feels like Christmas morning when I was 12!

Ill do a video review of it this weekend.

I sent it back.

I called John and ended up speaking with Mariana and told her my woes and what I would like to swap it for. She said no problem as I was within the 30 day trial period. She asked John for a price and I sent it back and with in 10 days it was back in my hands.

Cost... everyone wants to know and it's no secret. This nib is an $80 job on a new pen.

There was never a hint of any issues in returning it. They only wanted to know what I wanted and how they could make the pen exactly how I wanted it.

Every time I have ever called no matter who answers they are 100% helpful and give the correct answer. If they are not sure they find out right then and there. I know these are a lot of $ so service should be on par, but these days you never know. I just wanted to throw that out there.... It's always a pleasure to call them.

Do you have an unmodified soft medium nib? I wonder how the elastic modification changes the writing feel, and which nib requires less pressure to achieve moderate line variation.

I do... On my nakaya desk pen it has a standard medium soft. Ill add that to the review and see how they compare ;)

How many Nakayas...?

Hehehe!

That nib looks wonderful! Or course, the pen is beautiful. Thus, the addiction sets in....

That is a spectacular looking nib and it seems to provide a nice enhancement and variation to your writing.

Are there any concerns with the nib's structural integrity now there is only a very short distance between the edges of the nib and the breather hole ? On most nibs this is usually the widest part.
I suppose the feed is providing some support in that area now and does the exposed feed have any effect on the nib drying out more quickly ?

I think that may be why it ends on line with the breather hole. I can say it does not feel like it weakens it but I shared your thoughts as well.

When writing with it the flex of the nib, or spread of the tines ends pretty close to that area. I mean if you were to overflex it on purpose, like to see where the weakest point is, I would say it would be right at the bottom of the breather hole and the peaks of those cuts. Being 14kt gold though it seems to take a good bit of flex without issue. Of course only time will tell BUT there are many out there that have had these nibs for several years so far. Leigh Reyes being one of those people.

I really need to try one of these angel wing mods on one of my nibs.

I have read that modifying a steel nib in this way is likely to end badly eventually, but with gold it's just fine.

It's not going to stop me getting on of Pendleton Brown's Hot Tip Angel Wing Bad Boy Stubs on one of my TWSBIs...

Well here it is in my review...

I put it up against or compare it to a Stubbed Medium/soft and a standard Medium/soft nib...
