Hi Guys

During the 70s over here in the UK one of the more popular school pens where made by Platignum.

Now all these years later I am getting into collecting pens and find pens by Platignum and Platinum.

Are the two different companies or the same one but with a slight name change.

Thanks

Paul

Hello Paul,

They are two different companies: Platignum are a british pen company (which makes sense of why they were so popular as school pens here in the UK), Platinum are a Japanese manufacturer.

Here are links to their websites fro further info:

Platignum: http://www.platignum.com/welcome
Platinum: http://www.platinum-pen.co.jp/english.html

Coincidently both companies were founded in 1919 (just to make things confusing!)

Hope this helps, James

I remember the school pens well. Platignum were a subsidiary of Mentmore, which opens up some interesting possibilities for a collection.

Just recently, prompted by one of SBREB's review videos and attractive pricing at Amazon, I bought a new Platignum Studio No.5 which turned out to be a nicely put together all metal pen which actually wrote rather well out of the box. It pleases me that the name is still going, and that if my experience is anything to go by the products are decent and keenly priced.
