Hello,

I'm cleaning out one of my pen cases and decided to get rid of some pens that I don't use on a regular basis. There are 12 pens here (sorry for the long post!) Each pen has a link to a gallery of pictures below the description. I'd like to stay CONUS if possible. I take payment via Paypal. Personal check would be accepted as well but payment would have to clear before I ship the pen out, that ususaly takes my bank 2 days to post and clear a check. Please feel free to ask me any questions and PM if intrested!

Sold - 1. Edison Nouveau Premiere in Satin black. Discontinued color. Extra Fine Steel Nib. Small imperfection where the top portion of the cap connects near the clip. The pen came this way and it's so small it never bothered me. Converter and original box included. Price: $100 Shipped CONUS - Sold

I purchased pen #4, the Parker 51. The short version - I couldn't be happier. Now for the long version.

First, why I bought the pen. I have never been enamored by the 51s shape. Rounded ends usually don't I interest me. For example, I like the flat ended shape of the Noodler's Konrad and Nib Creaper a lot more than the Ahab. I own three Ahabs, soon to be four, because of the ink capacity. More vintage pens that appeal to me are the flat ended Sheaffer Targa, Montblanc Slimline, Waterman Laureat, Cross Century II etc. I bought the 51 because it was on just about everyone's "must buy" or iconic pens list. I had purchased two Parker 21s because they were said to be near the 51 in writing experience. I have never inked them and will be sold off to offset the purchase of the 51.

The second reason for this pen was the price. My most expensive pen is a TWSBI Vac 700 which cost about $75. My next most expensive pen is my Sheaffer Snorkel which cost $54 and I hadn't planned on spending that. I missed typed a digit while bidding on eBay and ended up winning the pen. Most 51s are above my budget. If they aren't than they usually need repair and/or restoration and the combined cost puts them over my budget. The 51 I purchased was only $35 including shipping and it was in working order. I figured this might be my only chance to get a 51 at a reasonable price in working condition. So I bought it.

So how did the purchase go?

Shipping. I concluded the financial arrangements at 6:50 PM on June 1, Saturday. The pen was shipped on Monday, the earliest day he could get it out the door. USPS lost one day off their estimate and the pen arrived today at noon. I am very happy with that.

Packaging. You have probably read about how Goulet and ISellPens package their pens. The packaging on this easily rivals them. If I have to use my box cutter than it is well packed and I needed the box cutter. The pen was wrapped and rolled inside a bubble envelope. The bubble envelope was taped closed in the middle and both ends. The bubble wrapped envelope was inside a handmade heavy cardboard sleeve, also taped all around. I preserved the bubble envelope and cardboard sleeve for when I ship my own pens. The entire package was then placed inside a Styrofoam peanut filled USPS Priority box. Since there were peanuts below, above and on every side of the pen package, I would say that it was carefully placed in the package and not just dumped in. Also inside the package was a handwritten thank you note. It was written with a fountain pen and ink on dot paper.

The Pen. The pen was clean inside and out. I am used to getting pens that are absolutely filthy from eBay. I expected to have to flush and bath the 51 for a few days. I was very happy to discover on the first flush that the water came out the same color it went in - clear. So I shook all the water out of the pen. Since the pen is gray it had to be filled with my only gray ink - Levenger Smokey. I don't think Levenger makes that ink anymore. My bottle is 7 or 8 years old and dwindling fast.

Once the pen was inked I started writing with it. I was shocked at how bad my handwriting got. Then I realized the problem. I am used to pens that aren't the smoothest in the world. Some are scratchy, some have tooth and I have to "push" them a bit. The 51's nib is probably the smoothest nib I own. It writes as like you were writing on glass. When I "pushed" it, it just flew around the page. Once I got the hang of not pushing it, it just wrote like a dream. I wrote every word at work with it today and the entries in my two journals, about 5 pages in total. I didn't want to stop writing with it.

Based on my experience above, I would definitely recommend this seller. As a matter of fact, if I didn't have five other pens coming in this week and next I might be buying more from the list above.

I completely agree with pencils + pens! I had the same outstanding experience buying a pen from inky. He even included the original paperwork from when he bought the pen! I've been writing with this great Waterman Starlet ever since it arrived. inky's a wonderful seller and a terrific guy.

If this isn't against the rule of this forum I would also +2 the above sentiments in a recent trade.
