When FPN changed the rules of their Classifieds section in April I was catapulted into finally opening an Etsy store to sell pens, paper and the like. Certainly every meaningful endeavor of this sort deserves the proper accoutrements so had this embosser made to use for my store correspondence.

Anyone else have an embosser? Post your pictures. I'll also add that having a shop that I can view as an online entity has been more fun (and successful) than having my wares burried in a list of hundreds of other items for sale.

Nice embosser.

Will self designed wax seals be welcome in this thread?

Nice embossers! What a cool idea!

My husband did those one year for my stocking at Christmas. Initials have obvious applications, and I have a rather huge library in the house and use the other on the front page of books. They are fun!

That's great! What does the symbol mean?

It's my take on a symbol attributed to Archangel Raziel with some added energy waves thrown in for good measure - basically "as above so below" from the wonderful emerald tablets of Hermes Trimegistus.

Here is a ring I had made with a similar symbol from the homeland (Lemuria).

I bought my embosser on an ebay buy-it-now. The price was very reasonable (about $27.00 USD) and the service and turn around time was great so here's a link in case anyone's interested. There are several seal options available.

I had one made a while back but it was for a church where my wife and I were the secretary/treasurers. I need to get a personal one made. :)

I have meant to post here for a while now. I try to limit my purchases to pens and pencils and the occasional vintage ink but could not resist these embossers. I seldom have anyone to write to but when I do I like to add a little vintage flourish.

So far as I can tell Knob California was a town in Shasta County California, my guess would be mining. I have not found anything concrete about the Crown Temple, I again guess, it's a fraternal organization.

Used to have an embosser with our address on it, but we moved. Need to look into getting a new one.

Where did you pick yours up, @jbb?

I do have a Chinese chop, however, which I love. Had my original one from Taiwan replicated ink a self-inking one and I use it so much more since it is convenient.

The discussions about embossers over on FPN are unavailable at the moment, (2013-12-30):
I knew a lawyer who had quite the collection of corporate seals dating form the early 1900s. The machines were desktop units, cast iron, stout and serious tools meant to last for hundreds of years and handle hundreds of thousands of impressions. The dies were remarkable pieces of art, elaborate designs, hand-engraved and, of course, included the reverse images to produce a stunning emboss. Many of these designs were intended to be rubbed with a cotton pouncer that was impregnated with a bit of ink. May of these devices were designed to put an indelible image into super premium paper, stuff they just don't make any more, the kind of heavy rag meant for stock certificates and financial instruments.
Any major market area will have a shop where you can get embossers custom made. Some shops offer in-house machining, others send it all out to a jobber. Here in Boise ID, there's ABC Stamp Company. A couple of the old timers in the shop can get pretty excited about custom jobs. Before you order online, give you local merchant a call, drop by, see the demo units and give them a chance to sell you a good product.

I accidentally ran across my old embosser today and remembered this thread.
Back in the day, we had advertisements arrive in the mail. If you saw something that you liked, you mailed them a check and 4-6 weeks later you got your whatever. Noticed I used a check so it is well past the days of cash via pony express. I ordered this embosser to put my name in my books. I stole the idea from something I saw written on the title page of a book in a second hand bookstore. I think that I did buy the book as well but I do not remember what it was. The sample pictured is a 1902 edition of Dante. I have all 3 volumes.
