Offered for sale is a lovely and genuine antique Asian Lacquered Box. I believe the box is of Chinese origin, but I am not certain. The box with lid measures approximately 7 1/2 inches x 7 1/2 inches x 1 1/4 inches tall.
There is what appears to be a pencil inscription on the inside of the cover. It is a bit difficult to read but I think I see:
Carrie to Tim (last name?)
Danville, Va
Nov 29, 1919
I modified the antique box to house pens by inserting a slotted tray backed with some foam. This was not glued in and can be easily removed without damaging the box if the new owner so desires.
I used the box to house a collection of Asian pens which has now outgrown the box and led me to buy another larger box. The slotted tray inserted is large enough to house sizable pens. In an attempt to show this, the picture below shows the box holding 10 Pelikan 800's. Yes, I am aware that Pelikans are not Asian pens and I have mixed different cultures, but I wanted to use pens that were known to most people as sizable pens.
