HisNibs.com update -- Wooden Chariot and Crescent video
August 29th, 2011

Greetings,

This issue of the newsletter introduces a stunning, oversized fountain pen from Jinhao -- the Wooden Chariot.

It's been 108 years since the first Conklin Crescent Filler was introduced. I thought it was about time to produce a video on how to fill the damn thing!

Join us on our Facebook fan page. Facebook has recently simplified addressing for business pages, so we can now be reached directly at www.facebook.com/hisnibs1. Come join us for what has become a lively meeting place for news about pens, ink and handwriting.

On the blog....Slingshots anyone?

Jinhao Wooden Chariot

Ok, your first question is probably "Is that really wood"? Yes. Your second question most likely is "What kind of wood"? I don't know! I'm guessing rosewood, but I'm not really up on my types of wood. I'm sure that a more knowledgeable person than I will let me know in short order.

What I can tell you is that this gorgeous pen is the first displaying Jinhao's new logo (even though I introduced the Celluloid series first), a stylized representation of a horse, chariot and two charioteers. This was inspired by the terracotta warriors found buried with the first Qin emperor of China, in the city of Xi'an. Hence the name.

Filling a Conklin Crescent video

The fountain pen that America's most famous writer personally endorsed makes its return again. Measuring a substantial 5-1/2" capped, 6-3/4" posted and 5" with cap held aside, it's size makes for stress-free writing, as it's made from a special cellulose acetate, and so is light in the hand.

Now, how do you fill it?

On the blog...Slingshot anyone?

Most of us grew up with a slingshot or two in our past. I remember my father making me a 'machine gun' slingshot when I was a boy. It only fired one rubberband at a time, but it looked like a machine gun, including a removable 'clip'. :-) I wish I'd kept it!

Meet a man who never outgrew his love of slingshots...and see some of the outrageous ones he's created. He has an entire YouTube channel on the subject.
