Here you see a bamboo pen with "Fuki-Urushi" finish.
Fuki-Urushi is the term for sealing wood and bamboo by rubbing raw lacquer "ki-urushi" into the surface.
After the raw urrushi is rubbed in it is completely rubbed off and shall be cured for 24 hours. This process can be repeated as many times as necessary or desired. The honey color of the urushi gives the wood a more intensive color and darkens it layer by layer. Inside of the pen is soaked with urushi thinned with Acetone
After proper fuki-urushi the pen/wood is completely sealed and water proof.

Best regards,

Martin

While I don't love the grip, the exterior is amazing!

Thank you Lloyd.
with bamboo fountain pens you always find a big difference in the diameter of barrel and section.
the reason lies in limits of construction

That difference between barrel and section is the one thing that puts me off bamboo pens.

Now a bamboo *desk pen*, that would be something!

This is just amazing.

Do I see it correctly that the metal ring on the bamboo actually follows the "dip" caused by the bamboo's natural shape?

I am not too concerned with the diameter difference.
