Blue Dollar

A sharp eye found this poorly described blue Dollar Esterbrook. I'll post more when it arrives. Right now I know its an early marble type because of the cap ring.

The Blue Dollar is now restored.

After disassembly, I removed the J bar and gently cleaned using a copper or brass brush, reinstalled, and check lever alignment. The nib is a circa '32 flat feed 9550. I used a mandolin string to makes sure it was not clogged, then used an old tooth brush and Dawn to clean it up.

The diaphragm was replaced and the shellac cured 24 hours. I checked for leaks and suction this morning before applying talc and reassembling. The level and J bar worked to get some Waterman into the sac and I gave it a few strokes to check out the old nib. At first it was a fine point and later it settled down into a bit wider, more smooth writer.

That is novel. I don't generally have stringed instruments at my disposal. I use brass shims from Lee Valley.

I spotted this too and thought it was an excellent idea. :) I don't have any at my disposal either. :(
