Okay all you fountain pen (and dip pen) types, this may tickle your Luddite fancy. Here is one techie's answer to the intrusion of smartphones in daily life. Follow all the links if you want one of your own and you're good at bidding on vintage Princess phones for parts and you can handle a soldering iron. It really should come in classic Bakelite black, don't you think? No more pocket calls, either.

I watched a show a few months back in which schoolchildren were shown what school was like in various historical periods. One was the fifties and among the various items was a dial phone. None of the children were successful in dialing a number. The children were clever and succeeded well in dealing with some other historical gadgets. I think this suggests that the concept of connecting by dialing is actually quite difficult for those who grew up with buttons to press.

I would buy one of these faster than Conids go on for sale boards... I love the concept and the execution is just reminsicent enough of a Tricorder to make it irresistable.

I tend to move in that direction. I finally moved from my StarTAC 85 flip phone to a so called smart phone that now stays at home while it is my watch that goes with me. Since the watch has it's own SIM card and the smart phone auto-forwards calls and messages to the watch when out of BlueTooth range all is right in the world.

Too late for your Christmas stocking, but it'll be available in 4G come spring, 2021, even ready-built. (http://www.skysedge.us/unsmartphones/index.html)

Looks like you can get your bake-lite black (and other cool 50's colors)
