Being that the gold band on the cap is gold fill, is there any way to get this area repaired if a section of gold is missing? I know it's a different process than simply replating.

Not likely. That is a pressure process, so if you want to hide the worn gold on a finished product, you have to plated it.

I can and don't mind doing so. I just wasn't sure if it would hold as well or look the same. I also saw someone mention long ago that the finished result would have raised edges where it overlaps the GF like when you just polish a heavily brassed cap band.

I didn't say it would always be a perfect match. There may be a color difference depending on the solution used. Color is a function of gold content and the other metals used in the alloy. A perfect match is tough to get. ...and if the cap isn't properly prepped, yeh, you would be likely to feel or see the transition. You can't just slap the plating on over top of the brassed part.
