View Full Version : Hey la, hey la, my Montblanc's back

Last year my Chopin 145 developed ink flow issues while I was in Paris. Mounting a J Herbin cartridge was difficult, and I thought a piece of plastic got stuck in the feed tube. Earlier this year, the ink stopped flowing again while a converter filled with J Herbin Éclat de Saphir.

Within two weeks of receiving the pen, MB North America service diagnosed a corroded forepart. They replaced the part at no charge and sent the pen back in less than the 2-4 week estimated turnaround time.

Hey la, hey la, my favorite pen's back!

The forepart.

Thank you. Just looked at the invoice from the service center again, and it says "forepart." Guess that's the front part of the pen.

There isn't a boutique here in NE Ohio, so I sent it directly to the service center.

I had been reluctant to do that due to some complaints on the other forum a couple of years ago, but with a several month turnaround elsewhere, I decided to try MB service. Glad I did.

Forepart sounds like bad / lazy translation. I'm sure it was the thingy with the doohickey that corroded.

Anyway. You got it back and it works and that's sweet!

Look, I'm just working overtime with all the euphemisms springing out of "corroded forepart".

Sounds like they circumcised the MB.

That'd be my guess too, since they don't have a metal trim like the 144 it replaced. But does have that metal area in the back, and if that was allowing air in behind the feed, it could definitely cause some leakage for ink that is in the "forepart" :p

Yesterday's email included a message from the executive assistant to the president of Montblanc North America responding to a handwritten note I sent to Montblanc complimenting the customer service agent who processed payment for repairing my 145.

Montblanc, Leica, MOO (https://www.moo.com/us/luxe-products), and Eddycam (https://www.eddycam.com/en/home/#&panel1-1) run way ahead of the rest of the pack of big business.

A handwritten note addressed to Apple CEO Tim Cook in Cupertino was intercepted by one of the palace guards, who regurgitated a stock word processing document from the playbook of corporate pabulum that reeked of corporate speak, evasions, and undue familiarity. . Same thing happened with two follow-ups (https://www.bobsoltys.net/blog/2020/3/21/a-tale-of-three-companies). A far cry from the days when Guy Kawasaki was Apple's evangelist.

By contrast, Leica responded to a compliment with a handwritten letter and a couple of chachkas. (Alas, it wasn't a Leica M10 Monochrome.) :jester:

Eddycam sent a handwritten note and a token of their appreciation, too.

Grateful that some companies still "get it" and respect when someone makes the time to put their thoughts to paper.
