MONTBLANC Patron of Art Luciano PAVAROTTI Limited Edition 888 Fountain Pen

Mod.: 28927 Ref: 111674

Limited Edition: ***/888

Year 2015

Just as Pavarotti wore his black tuxedo with a white bow tie and shirt when on stage, the Limited Edition also comes in black and white lacquer. The Limited Edition 888 is inspired by the opera “Turandot”, the performance of which catapulted Pavarotti to world fame. The Eastern influence found in the music is reflected in the black and white lacquer dragon with its red garnet eyes adorning the cap. Fine engravings depicting opera ornaments decorate the Au 750 gold cone, which is adorned with a faceted garnet. A delicate engraving of Pavarotti’s unconventional good-luck charm, a bent nail, decorates the Au 750 solid gold nib (Medium). After his performances, Pavarotti would often wear a large and extravagant scarf. This eye-catching trademark of Pavarotti’s is reflected in the gold-plated clip which is wrapped casually around the cap, with the Montblanc emblem in mother of pearl.

MINT CONDITION, NEVER INKED OR USED, COMPLETED WITH LACQUERED WOOD DISPLAY BOX, OUTER BOX, INTERNATIONAL SERVICE CERTIFICATE, BOOKLET SIGNED AND DULY STAMPED (number on pen, booklet, display case and box label match), WHITE DUST COVER BOX.

Price asked USD 5700 (EUR currency available too)Sorry for the off Topic but I have to ask:

Do you know why so many thing that have a connection to italy make reference to the numbers 8, 88 or 888?

Aurora has a pen called 88, your pen was a limited edition of 888, bvlgari makes a watch called octo (8), czeck and speake's italian shaving soap is called 88, razorock italian shaving soap is called 888 and so on.

Ive tried searching the web for an answer but couldn't find any.

This very pen I believe has nothing to do with the connection between Italian and the number 8. This is one of Montblanc's Patron of Art series, and they produce 4810 limited edition as the "base" model, and "888" limited editions as "luxury" model every year, regardless of the concept.

I'm also curious about the number "8" and its meaning in Italian culture.

I ignore or don't know what kind of link could there be between the number 8 and Italian culture.
On the other hand, the number 8 for Asian culture is synonymous with luck and prosperity. Montblanc launched in 2008 a skeleton fountain pen with reference to the lucky number 8, The Fortune Number.
