Thread is now closed

This is a Parker Vacumatic with a Flex nib. The date code seems to suggest it was made in 1944 and there is a name engraved into the barrel. Fill mechanism has been repaired and barrel has some ambering. Pen writes well as you can see from pictures.

Price is now $150 or best offer. Free priority mail shipping in US only. PM with any questions

You need to change your thread title. It is a tad confusing.

Fixed, thank you for pointing that out.

I think you may need to ask the Admin to change the actual thread title, as it still shows "Pilot".

Well folks, the title may be inaccurate but the pen is the genuine article.

Ok, the Admins are not going to fix the sign, but this is still a pilot with a nice fine to medium flex nib (would not call it a wet noodle but you definitely are not working against the nib for the line variation).

edit: Yes, I made the same typo again. I mean Parker.

So it's a frankenpen? Parker nib and Pilot body? When did Pilot make a pen like that?

Dontcha hate that!

Helios1014 - I think you need to abandon all hope here and list it again.

No the title is just wrong. It is all Parker I'm pretty sure. 😉 I love blue, very tempted but alas too many pens already headed my way!

The OP can't even get it right, look at Posts #10-11.

I know. :) My poor attempt at humor and riding Jon's coat tail.

Helios, at some point you have to grasp the concept that the price is... not correct.

Agreed. This should go for $130 at most.

Don't you just love these forums, someone asks how much a pen is worth and the usual suspects will tell how a price that is often far more than you see them selling for, and then when someone tries to sell one and is asking a price that is quite a bit below what the forum regulars claim they are worth no one wants to buy it.

If you watch these things on a popular auction site Vacumatics might often be listed for anything upto $599 but the ones that sell are the ones that sell for under $100, so in reality unless you are lucky enough to have something particularly desirable the value of a standard vacumatic is more like $75 to $100. with the $75 being closer to the norm.

Controversial as always

I rarely see vacs listed at anything more than about $150 on eBay BIN. The ones that auction and finish sold generally run $75 - $100 depending on condition and nib. And frankly I wouldn't pay any more than that. This one? Even with a flexible nib, $100 tops. I think where some of the collectors around here list very high values are for rare vacs with odd little differences that make them rare and valuable to vac collectors trying to plug that hole in their collection. Someone who just wants to write with one? Not so much.

Well I am not opposed to entertain offers in that range, I am still concerned about the lack of any offer what so ever. I have already chopped $50 of the starting price and even that was listed with an "or best offer" addendum.

Think of it as a mixed blessing, because it means that this forum doesn't harbor lowballers. There are plenty of places where if you advertise something for $200 OBO, somebody will offer you $15 and verbally abuse you if you decline. Whatever people here think of the price you're advertising -- and I think you've heard enough of that! -- they at least are respecting your expectation to get something in that range.

Frankly, the best advice I could give would be to close this listing and open a new one without a price in the title, partly because this thread's conversation has gotten a little weird for a for-sale post, and partly so that it'll be easier for you to manage the listing until it sells. At the moment, there are probably a lot of FPG members who have never read this thread because the advertised price puts them off, so they don't even know you're amenable to offers.

Hi

To be honest, if you look at the history of sales on these pen forums or lack of history of sales:) you would be better of sticking it on eBay with a reserve and put it on for as long as you can so enough people can find your listing.

But Vacumatics usually sell for less (below the asking price, won't post but you can check) in eBay... Won't he get hit be relisting fees? Not that familiar with eBay rules

Also, did a quick search but I can't find a post where the OP asked for the going price for a Parker Vacumatic.. Well not in this forum at least. A Vac can sell that high but only if it has a lot going for it..

Helios, just close this listing and start over with a clean subject line and put the price you want in the body of the sale. There's no point in keeping this listing. It's no great amt. of work to re-list it.
