400nn Tortoiseshell Finial Inscription Color

What was the fill color on the 400nn Tortoiseshell finial?

I can see some color in the logo on the finial with a loupe but it is literally microscopic residue now. My best guess is that it was gold or cream-colored.

It is a light brown (at least my 400s (not 400nn) have been...)

I was thinking of filling it in with a lacquer pencil like I do the engravings on the plastics on Rolleiflex cameras of the same vintage. Maybe I can find a light brown or blend the wax together to match.

I would definitely go with a wax, not lacquer. Not sure what type though...

I’m not sure there’s lacquer in Lacquer Stiks. It’s a wax-like substance. I’d test it on ping pong balls first for safety.

I'm not certain Pelikan 400nn pens always had the finial engraving colored. I have 5 of them in different colors and can see no residue of color in anly of them. This in contrast to my 400's, where several are colored in. As Fountainpenkid writes, they are filled in with light brown, almost a golden color. This ^ I have two 400NN Tortoise and the other has the finial engraving filled while the other does not. Used green 400NN has some green/gray residue left. It actually seems to highly depend on the amount of use and wear the pen has had. Out of the 100N, 400, 400N & 400NN I have the NOS pens have really super crisp and fully filled imprints while the more used and worn down ones are plain or have little left. Might have something to do with the nature of the material used for the filling (wax like filler/substance), it wears off easily.
