Scheaffer 300 users - your help

I am looking at the Sheaffer 300 for work/business etc.

I’m asking anyone who owns one, please tell me your thoughts on this pen.

The Sheaffer 300 is a well made and reliable pen that is not too expensive. It is best used without the cap, this is called posting.

Ink flow is good and the nib has some character.

Suggest that you allow a little in the budget for a leather pen case.

I did not pay much for mine, bought a few years ago. A large and heavy pen, as RobJohnson said, you might not want to post the cap. Mine is chrome finished. It reminds me of a big heavy Cross pen I can't remember the name of, and it writes about as well. Both pens have steel nibs. It is a nice writing pen. No leaking or blotting. I have not been moved to use the 300 a lot, because of the weight. But otherwise it seems to do nothing wrong.

Thank you to both of you for your help. I’ve been using fountain pens for the past three years mainly LAMY Safari’s, Pilot Metropolitan, and a Conklin, but they are not appropriate for the new position that I have. I would like to have a ‘professional’ looking pen, saw this one in my search, and sought out advice before I made any movement.

Hi. I sorta inherited one somehow, and have to agree it's a professional 'looking' pen. And not using it posted is certainly a good idea as it would have to be the heaviest pen I've ever come across.
Mine had a horrible nib, and I had a spare Mabie Todd #4 nib which I wasn't using, which fitted it perfectly, hence it writes beautifully.....albeit unposted.
Forgive me if I sound negative, but I see absolutely no justification for making a pen this heavy !! I'm perplexed at what Shaeffer were thinking !!

Maybe this pen was made for people with large hands who want something substantial. It works well, and not everyone wants the smaller, lighter pens I like.
