View Full Version : Which Lamy?

I an hoping to get a bit of information on my new (and immediately favourite) pen. I only really bought it because it had an EF nib, and my writing is all blobby and horrible in anything too wide...yet most modern pens in my price range (low) seem to come in M by default. I also loved the look of it, simple and elegant.

It is Lamy, that much I know for sure! I had assumed it was a 99 as it has the piston mechanism and hooded nib that seem to crop up when I googled older Lamys, but it has 'Lamy Akkerman' down the side and 37 EF on the end that you turn to draw ink in, which has thrown me a bit. Google drew a blank there. Akkerman seem to make ink, not pens, and Lamy 37 doesn't exist?

I'd love to know a bit more about it if possible, how old it might be and such. It makes no difference if it is a mass-produced Everyman pen or a rare oddity, I love it regardless. I'm just intrigued!

I'd hoped to post a couple of pictures, but I don't seem to be able to do so from my phone, so I am afraid I will have to try describing it... The pen is a burgundy colour, it has a piston mechanism with rounded ink viewing windows towards the nib. There is a silver metal separator, then a black segment leading to the nib. The nib itself is good coloured with LAMY 585 on it, and it is partially hooded. The lid is metal, with LAMY embossed on the clip and a white L against black on the very end. The pen is printed/engraved with the above wording and it writes beautifully and fluidly with the Herbin ink I have been using. Apologies for my description, I'm not sure of the terminology! I will try to post a picture as soon as I'm in front of a real computer and not on this tiny, stupid phone.

If I remember correctly there is a very detailed article on Lamy 2000 in the library. That may prove helpful.

Thank you, I just had a look - it's definitely not a Lamy 2000, though now I can say I want (need) one of those too..!

At a computer now, so here it is:

(sorry - I realise now I didn't position it at 0, but you get the scale at least)

'LAMY Akkerman' engraving on barrel, difficult to pick up without getting my fancy camera out the box
