The Symphony

This is the Eversharp Symphony. A model from Eversharp that -- today -- is less known than the popular Skyline. Introduced in 1948, it's another Eversharp pen that was designed by industrial designer.

It is a big vintage pen at 5.5 inches capped, very nicely made and this particular surviving sample is in excellent condition. The nib is Fine to Medium firm, 14K Eversharp.

The inside really reminded me of the Skyline, from the breather tube, lever filler and the slightly tapered end (not as tapered as the Skyline).

Notice that the price sticker is still there?

The Stones at a corner of an imaginary Japanese garden.

I paired this pen with Platinum Carbon Black and Sailor Rikyu-Cha to test the "pen and wash" technique and the inks passed the test with ... uh, flying colors.

It never ceased to amaze me how many different shades you can extract out of a single ink. The Rikyu-Cha is already one of my favorite ink because of its unique dusky-dark-olive green hue.

The Platinum Carbon also earned its place in my toolset by being able to withstand washes without smearing, just like what pigmented ink should do.

Nice pic, good example of creating a depth by using light colors in the background and darker colors at the front.

Thank you, Rob.

I'm still learning to anticipate how dark or light a certain dilution of this ink ended up on the paper.

You know what's funny? I posted this on Pentrace and someone also made the connection to the Cascading Pebbles.

But it's even funnier that not a single person on r/fountainpens made that connection. I guess they are too young for them.
