Historic Busts for a Writing Den

A recent consideration of the options of home office decor has sprung to mind the idea of a small statue to honor a historical figure. Merely placing a tasteful bust statue on a shelf nearby could set the proper studious tone for a writing lair and lend an air of gravitas. Perhaps a representation of Lincoln, FDR, JFK, Jefferson, Churchill or the like would feel at home in a modern study with retro pretensions. Or perhaps in this woke age it would be best to eschew figures of past heroics now deemed ignominious and to prefer a more neutral emblem of esteem, such as an object from nature. This writer welcomes the fervent, earnest, though well-considered, opinion regarding such.

I'd look at the quality of the sculpture before the person it represented.

Regarding more neutral and less politically charged figures, there's always the great composers, as well at the classical philosophers.

I suppose I would ask: for whom is the object being placed? Is this for your own, daily inspiration, or is it... to have others gaze upon it?

Your question, and especially the language it is presented with, indicates fairly serious thought, a consideration beyond the mere decoration of a space. In the end, it sounds as if it must mean something to you, and you aren't giving me the impression that you are trying to convince visitors with your choice. In this light, you should look to your own source of creative and life inspiration - writers, philosophers, historic figures...

In my case, there are two manner of objects that are spread throughout my studio space: images of natural beauty, many from actual visit, and images and mementos of the people (mostly family) and events that have shaped my life. Not in terms of bein self-important, but a poster from a significant concert I gave means more to me than the head of a political figure.

You are different, and should make your own choices, based on the purpose for the adornment. Then again, I looked at the thread title and initially thought "Dolly Parton!"

Upon reflection on these cultivated responses, I am taken with the inescapable epiphany that a philosopher or composer would be a skillful means to avoid political controversy, should I confine my choice to a human individual. Should I turn to nature, something from the equine establishment or the aviary world would suggest themselves. In the selection of an item, I am looking for a conveyance of both my interests and character should a visitor observe such, as well as an inspiration for my own faculties. Quite possibly, should it be deemed necessary to select between the two, toward something enlightening to my own countenance would be granted primacy.
