View Full Version : Montblanc 149 hard start/dry feed

Hey all!

I just picked up a Montblanc 149 and just inked it up, but have been having hard start/dry out issues.

Pen writes beautifully when initially inked, then after about a half of page of notes, it goes dry.

I’ve cleaned it with warm water and warm water with a little dish soap, thought that might take care of it.
Nib is centered on feed, tines are aligned, no baby’s bottom….

Any thoughts or suggestions?

It's possible that giving the feed an overnight soak in warm water might fix it as it could have old dried up ink in the internal parts of the feed. Depending what ink was previously used in there and how long it might have dried out for might mean there could be more ink inside than you have managed to clean out so far.

I would put some warm water into the bottom of a tumbler and fill the pen with that then leave it soaking in there while ensuring that the water doesn't go above the screw threads.

Flush it out well several times next day and see if it's better. Maybe try using a different ink.

Hi,

Is the pen definitely filling? Can you see ink swishing around inside?

Good Evening!

Yes the pen is definitely filling. I actually removed the nib and separated from the feed last night and soaked it all in some water. I put it all back together and it seems to be feeding properly now, with a nice wet, shiny trail from the broad nib.

Who knows maybe the feed was clogged, maybe the nib wasn’t set properly on the feed , but now it’s working beautifully.
