This week i have received an unusual ebonite pen in mail. Below are the pictures.

Hmm.. looks like a pretty ordinary ebonite in mottled brown. What makes it special?

This... my lovely baby ebonite pen beside the Deccan Advocate.

This pen is made by Mr. Guider Lakshmana Rao, a master pen turner from Rajahmundry, who took it as a challenge to create the smallest handmade pen.

The pen shown above is not the smallest pen he created.

Amazing!

I have a full-sized Guider ebonite pen and like it quite a bit. This makes me very interested in his thumb-sized pens now... I can picture putting one on a ring and keep it on my keychain.

Do ask for "the pen which fits in a match box" :)

When i was talking to Mr. Lakshmana Rao, he mentioned the effort and precision which goes into hand turning such tiny pens. But they still make the pens if the customer requests one just for curiosity. Shows his dedication to keeping the fountain pen tradition alive.
