Just picked up a sheaffer5 pen and need to know how to work it. The end screws off and slides out with what appears to be a cartridge? Is this correct? Not sure how to upload pics or if I can right now.

Thanks,

Mike

Look up Sheaffer Touchdown Pens.

Here are the directions that came with the pen.

The steel part that looks like a cartridge is a plunger. That it fills the pen when pushed in is somewhat counterintuitive, but is based on previous designs using a thin steel rod.

If there's a steel tube visible (as below) then it's a Snorkel, similar but mechnically more complex. Once the endcap is unscrewed, twisting it exposes the filler tube (so the nib needn't be dipped into the ink.

There are repair kits available for both sorts.
