I was gifted a small collection. In it is a Parker 45 demonstrator.

I don't think they were common. And I'm not certain its genuine, though it does have Parker Made in USA on the cap.
It's curious that the section has four slight depressions similar to a Lamy Safari, though far less pronounced.

What shall do with the pen? I really don't want it. I'd just rather have a solid daily use pen.

Advice would be appreciated.

Looks real. The fingers in the cap clutch deformed the hood.

This happens to most 45s, doesn't it?

Seems to happen a lot but then you find a lot with no evidence of it. Fortunately there are a lot of donor 45 s out there for parts.

Because of this problem I always store my Parker 45 pens with metal caps very loosely in position just over the nib in my pen case when they aren't inked and being used. Plastic caps don't have the same cap clutch so they are OK.

Yes. That is why I prefer the Parker 45 Arrow to the 45 with metal caps. The clutch works different and doesn't harm the section:

PS: some Parker 61 and U.S. made Parker "51" Mk III have the same problem... The choosen plastic is just too soft.
