View Full Version : Preventing the section from unscrewing from the body

Hello,

Does anyone know any tricks to help prevent the section from unscrewing from the main pen body? I'm assuming I must just write strange and there may be few that have this issue, but it does get annoying having to continually re-tighten the section to the body during the course of a writing session. Do they make offset lock-washers for pens? (Seems like that is almost what I need but would probably be unsightly).

What kind of pen ?

The only thing I can think of thats easy would be to take a tiny peice, cause you need need to go all around the threads, of plummers tape and put it on the threads of the section and them screw it back together. That should tighten it up enough that it wont unscrew.

Like this ...

Just a small piece so as not to stress the barrel.

but you probably knew that

Absolutly... the small piece above on the chamos is how big the piece on the section is. I stretched it out a little before putting it on. This way it would work but be as thin as possible.

cment2 brings up a very very good point!

That is a good idea I really had not thought of...

Thank you

You can use those small seals used to convert pens to eyedropper fillers to give some friction to resist opening too. The only one of my pens that started to do this is my Nemosyn Singularity.

Counter-intuitively, a spot of grease on the threads should help. Don't overtighten.

A little beeswax on the threads will work, too-- very slightly tacky, more likely to move aside than stress a barrel, and it smells nice.

Aha! I wonder if this works in the same way as the oil soaked plates of a wet clutch?

ps how about a dab of rosin sealant on the threads?

I haven't come up with a rationalisation for it - since a screw is just a wedge in spiral form it shouldn't work. http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-confused005.gif (http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys.php) Anyway, it does seem to do the trick ... somehow.
