It is being discussed that the time has come to end the British monarchy. I agree with the long dead Thomas Paine regarding inherited power, which is an irrational concept to put a toddler in power or at least could.

The current brood seems to be so trivial that taking them seriously a joke. That said, the current PM is no better.

Just watched Seven Years in Tibet, a biopic based on the work of Heinrich Harrer, that recounts his friendship with the Dalai Lama. When the Dalai Lama (the titular head of state) dies, a search is mounted to find his reincarnation, a very young child. That child is then installed in the throne, to be rigorously schooled and shaped for his majority, when he attains full power. Meanwhile, the practical side of governing is carried out by a coterie of regents, as it was when a young person inherited the British throne.

Since the Chinese invaded Tibet, the Dalai Lama is no longer head of state in a practical way.
