You should change to "inkwells...............there's never enough." This way you need to buy more.

I rather think you can. Visiting one of my favourite antiques/curiosity shops (http://www.mostlyboxesantiques.com/) recently, I distinctly remember thinking "this chap has far too many inkwells". Hundreds of them. If anybody is in the Windsor area it's well worth nipping over the bridge into Eton and having a look.

Yes, I bought one, and a box of nibs. http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-basic/biggrin.gif (http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys.php)

Yes, if it diminishes your available funds for pen purchases;
No, if you are one of those lucky bast**ds who never run out of money for pens and inks.

That is one gorgeous ink well though!

Yes, it is another diversion of limited funds from pens.
So I have to be very selective and cheap.

This is something I have been wondering about metal inkwells. We are always warned by "them" not to convert fountain pens with internal metal parts or barrels into eyedroppers because of the potential metal/ink interaction. So how come it is OK to put the same ink in a metal inkwell? Inquiring minds want to know.:confused:

I think the metal inkwells use a glass insert for the ink, at least the few that I have seen.

Greetings geeks! So on my trip to California my sister-in-law's sister brought these to me. She found them at an estate sale and decided I needed them. Anyone know anything about them? No dates on anything and I am not completely sure how they work, but kind of. The glass is thick, solid and no damage to any of them. One had red dust inside that made quite a mess when water was added but all are getting a good soak now in mild soap and warm water. Any thoughts welcome. If you have a desire for one I am also willing to share. I have three, all lids are different but the glass and insert look the same mostly. My Visconti nibs would never fit in the tiny hole!! http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/06/30/mu8yra6a.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/06/30/asa5u4ab.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/06/30/buzu6egu.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/06/30/epy6uten.jpg

Well, there's one on auction I'm wanting a lot. Sometimes these are much harder to come by than the pens on my list and I go for it. That said, I own exactly one so far...

Tracy Lee: I think those inkwells are a very good catch indeed. I could certainly find a use for one of those, but would definitely want to see you right for it. This video should throw a bit of light on them:

Why don't I ever check You Tube? Never crosses my mind, I need to change that. Thanks for the link, it works just the way it looks like it does. If that makes sense.

Well, I can't upload the pic since the auction ended. It was a figural of a pewter colored crow with glass eyes--very lifelike. Final price $1193.
