The Community Reputation Board. (https://fpgeeks.com/forum/reputation_board.php)
There are many members on here who don't use this or don't like it. There are plenty who don't know it's there or how it even works.
In a nutshell when you click on the asterisk mark at the bottom left of any post you can leave reputation for that user by saying you approve of or disapprove of their post. Approval gives positive reputation and disapproval gives negative reputation to that user. Those comments accrue in number and that is the Rep Power number that you see at the bottom of your avatar. When you're signed in you can click on Settings at the top of the page to see details about your own reputation and what your total is.
Yes it can be divisive and that's why many don't ever say whether they approve of or disapprove of a post. It can be slightly more "noticeable" than just clicking on "Thanks".
As you would expect, the Reputation Board on FPG has a couple of an inbuilt features. The first makes it impossible for one user to repeatedly leave reputation for another user. That would be totally unacceptable for everyone. Therefore, once you have left any sort of reputation for someone, you have to leave more reputation, for at least 21 other users, before you can leave repeat reputation for that same user. The legend comes up as "You must spread some reputation around before leaving it for .... again."
The second inbuilt feature is that you can't leave more than 10 reputation comments in one day. A legend comes up and tells you that you have left the maximum reputation you can leave and you have to wait for at least 24 hours before leaving any more.
I'm going slightly off topic here by way of an explanation of what is to come: :offtopic:
As some of you may already be aware "Pterodactylus" answered a question about posting images on the Mystery Ink #45,46 and 47 thread. I also posted an answer to that question. Pterodactylus then thought it appropriate to tell me that neither I (nor anyone else apparently) should attempt to answer a question that he has already answered:
"I know pseudo admin Chrissy does not read it but.
Chrissy, it really bugs us when you try to answer an already addressed thing (happens so often)
If you can’t follow threads because you blocked half of the users and therefor can’t follow, then just don’t post.
Easy, isn’t it?"
Just for the record, and for accuracy, there was never an "us" - just him, and he's the only user I've blocked on that thread. However, I posted a factual reply that some will have read. Instead of "being the better person" by leaving it and letting it drop, he has rambled on and on in a rage and everything that he has posted on that thread since my reply has either been a direct personal insult or has been aimed at me as an oblique personal insult. I've been automatically promoted to being the "better person" by not stooping to his level or making any reference to his vindictive attacks since my reply. He did, however, reply: "I never insult members here, prove me wrong if you can."
Then he posted another post where he called me a "prude b---h" (he reluctantly edited it from the full word following a request from one of his friends) and another user posted a reply to that saying that not everyone liked his degrading paintings of women. Pterodactylus then posted a reply that is an insult to that user and is certain proof that he has insulted another user.
Back to topic :focus:
For that post I left him negative reputation as I didn't approve of the post, quoting it as his requested proof that he insulted another user.
Now Edited !0/10/22: Since he received that negative reputation comment from me, he has left reputation comments continually, at a rate of 10 per day, so that he could leave me another negative reputation comment for this post today. He has also left another 10 comments so it looks like his rage and his board manipulation is set to continue.
At least while he is picking on me he isn't picking on anyone else but let us all hope that his vindictive games will be over soon.
