Mine arrived yesterday and I couldn't be happier. That little bit of extra length, hardly noticeable unless you put it back to back with the Kaweco, allows for the converter. It makes all the difference. Kaweco should learn from it. The nib, though extra fine, which I rarely use, was not particularly scratchy and I'm enjoying writing with it as a change of pace.

My first "real" Stipula! An Etruria Amber with an 18k medium nib. I've long admired the flamboyant design of these pens but never found a good enough deal...until now! ($180 with some minor issues--nothing that Brad Torelli can't fix).

Waiting on a Conid filler demonstrator pen. I have always admired the TWSBI on steroids looking titanium parts pen. I went with a simple medium steel nib but i think it takes any standard number 6 nib collar so my FC Masuyama tuned nib may be headed for a new home. Anyone know how long the pens take to ship from Europe?

How do you find group buys on items? And may I ask how much you saved, (not off of full MSRP, but advertised price). I have always wondered how to get into a group buy on newly released pens. Instead I have stalked the online stores and waited until just before the model is gone, pitted one against the other, or the item went to closeout sales to pounce, [emoji16]. I have definitely saved, but have wondered if GB's could have gotten me the pens sooner for less.

I guess I'm not waiting for pens. I had a list for the Chicago Pen Show, found more pens than I had on my list. Guess I'll have to live on ham and beans for awhile with the ham only once a week. I found a Parker 51 Buckskin that was on my list. I also found a Parker 51 vac. demonstrator that wasn't on my list.

I am waiting for an Aurora Duocart in black. I debated between the red and black but the gold, black, red motif turns me off in a coral snake type of reaction, for some reason. Since my order for a Lamy Petrol ink bottle was canceled due to insufficient stock, the retailer gave me a 15% discount code and I used it towards the Duocart. I also had some Paypal money that brought the total out of pocket expense down to $27.

I had asked them about that before I bought my 45 XLV. They said a mini converter or squeeze converter may work. They just don't sell them. I just use mine as a eyedropper fill and love using it that way.
It is great they have such a nice return and exchange policy. Twice I have swapped nibs that did not fit my needs.

I agree eyedropper is really the way to go on the 45XLV and p66! Holds a lot more then a converter ever would. It really is a great pen for pocket carry when filled that way.

Two Pilots. Pilot Kaküno EF - I have fingers crossed for a clear one, but I wont know if the request was understood until it gets here.

The other is a brown Prera with a fine nib which will be immediately swapped with the fine italic from a Pluminix. I really like the FI nib but found it didn't play nice until I loaded it with Iroshizuko ink (received as a birthday gift a few weeks ago). What a difference! All the erratic flow issues disappeared. Delighted. I also like the choc milk colour of the Tsukushi so much it is getting this (hopefully!) matching pen as a permanent home.

A Jinhao 992 in opaque grey. I've been using a clear one for a few months and like the weight, shape and nib very much. I think the grey one with silver trim will be, for me, a really pretty pen. The ebay description called it a 2017 edition, I don't know if that's marketing-speak or a reason to hope it might be less likely to crack. Fingers crossed.

Not sure why I ordered a new pen before I have given my new Franklin-Christoph model 02 much writing time, but I ordered a Sailor 1911L with a B nib and rhodium finish. It should be here tomorrow. What can I say it was only $145 with Amazon prime shipping. I had been thinking about getting one for a while with a M nib to have something a little wider then the MF I have on a 1911S, but I am starting to drift into wider nibs these days and thought I would give it a try for $40 less then the M would have been. I can always use that money to pay to have it reground to a CI or something.

Just won a yellow Jinhao 886 with a nib reground by the vendor to 0.7mm cursive italic. Waiting for a Scriptorium Aeterna in Omas burkina celluloid. The Scriptorium will probably be another few weeks away as I think Renee has 10 or more pens before me in the queue. Another pen or two might be on the way soon too =]

This is a previous Aeterna I have which is made out of Tibaldi celluloid.

The new pen will be made of the gorgeous Burkina material, yellow celluloid with black dots and lines set into it. Apparently, the name Burkina for the celluloid comes from the material being reminiscent of the traditional artwork in the Burkina Faso.

Argh. The color isn't even remotely similar to the photo, and I checked several different monitors prior to purchase. It is a screaming Day Glo orange, suitable for writing in the woods during deer season.

Goulet is taking it back and putting a comment in their website description. Bummer.

That just makes it even more desirable to me... and it is called 'Fluo', so one would guess it'd be bright.

Re:the Caran d'Arche. I did not ink it since I knew it was going back, so I can't comment on how it writes.

The Pen Co. link shows a pleasing pumpkin color on my monitor.

Calling it "FLUO" in no way prepared me to think "Day Glo". Even Goulet admitted they needed to mention the difference on their site and did not charge me for return shipping.

No worries, my new Delta Stantuffo more than made up for it, and I knew I could rely on it's orange!

I'm quite familiar with ebonite pens as I have a few in my little collection. The smell I was referring to is the "vegetal resin" the Kanwrite pen is made of. If you've ever held a Noodler's Ahab close to your nose, you know what I'm talking about.

From what I can gather, that is not going to happen - at least with a US-made pen. From what research I've done (far from exhaustive), when the 61's capillary filler was finally given up on as a PITA, Parker brought out the Mk III with a cartridge/converter system. The only pens I've seen with the aerometric filler are those made by Parker Argentina during the years 1969-1976. Best sources in general are here (http://parkercollector.com/parker61.html) and here (http://www.vintagepenscollection.com/HistoryofParker.html).

Montblanc B nibs are already quite stubbish, not at all rounded. It wouldn't be too difficult to just flatten it a bit more yourself if you wanted to look on a You Tube video to check exactly how to do it. You would only need a nib smoothing board.

I made a B nib on my Boheme into an Architect grind just using a nib smoothing board. It took me ages though. :)

I’m waiting for an ‘80s Mont Blanc 146 to come back from repair. I wasn’t thinking and I put in the pocket of my jeans. When I sat down the barrel must have flexed because it developed a small leak where the barrel meets the fill window. 4 to 6 week turn around time for a new barrel.

Interesting barrel material. In the back of my mind there is a faint memory of an independent pen maker who creates custom pens from similar material. Cannot remember who it is though.

And speaking of custom made pens, I am waiting on the following (not including the pen pillow, alas).

https://i.imgur.com/hLBEfctl.png

The shape is based on the Sailor King of Pen with a slightly longer section by my request. The material is Conway Stewart Dartmoor acrylic. Nib to be decided. The maker is a true gentleman and very skilled with the lathe. PM me if you want details.

I got one of these. The Mother tried it and liked it, wanted one. So I showed her the options in eBay, and she chose the one with swirls and I ordered it for her. She's pretty excited about it. She'd prefer a bigger nib, i.e., M or B or BBB+, who knows, but this will do. She "skipped" away saying, "Hahaha, now I will have two fountain pens!"

Note: She has had more than two these past 30 years, cos I gave her at least some. I don't know where they went, and I'm not asking.

My Skyline set should arrive today!

In a few days yet another E. Faber Permapoint will appear. It has the snakeskin celluloid pattern that I cannot resist. It has yet another crappy worn out nib. That's ok. I found some low cost nibs that fit and perform nicely. This will be Permapoint number 4.

Also on the way is an old ebonite Parker with a semi flex nib that I may try to repair.

I guess I better start selling some pens now. :)

The brown blue was cool, but I have soft spot for tortoise shell materials. It looks like a budget Pelikan Rennaissance brown.

That's a Moonman Wancai Mini. I finally succumbed to all the glowing reviews -- after trying one at Pelikan Hub-Wrocław.

I bought mine (and the one for my mother) from jpzh11 on eBay (eBay link (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Moonman-Wancai-Mini-Ink-Sac-Transparent-Mint-Pattern-Fountain-Pen-Fine-Nib-0-5mm/183098399999?_trkparms=aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.S EED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20160908105057%26meid%3D75b6b 7e7f238474ba71fcfdedf575d76%26pid%3D100675%26rk%3D 7%26rkt%3D14%26mehot%3Dpp%26sd%3D253699719545%26it m%3D183098399999&_trksid=p2481888.c100675.m4236&_trkparms=pageci%3A5681d9b2-cdc2-11e8-85db-74dbd18055d1%7Cparentrq%3A65ff41d11660aa4689863299 fffffe85%7Ciid%3A1)). Its formal name is Moonman Wancai Mini Ink Sac, haha. Anyway, seller starts the pricing at $0.99, but it's really just less than $15, with free shipping from China.

Mine arrived on the frist day of the estimated-delivery-date range. Came wuth a box of 6 std intl carts (black -- despite dark blue box) and two pipettes (which work better than expected).

When I went to fill the Mini, I realized, hey, the bottom is curved. I can't stand it up on its own. Weird. But okay. But after using it, I realized, ohhh, it's curved to facilitate posting the cap. Great design!

The nib is utilitarian -- best so far with the Kaweco Summer Purple and Noodler's Black. AWFUL with Akkermann Blue-Black. Almost as bad with Artist Line Cognac but not bad enough to change it back to black.

It's really a nifty little pen!

Given the time and expertise required to mix, cure, and manufacture celluloid, I would be astounded if it is anything other than acrylic. Not that that's a problem, the material is beautiful. The materials actually remind me of some of the frame materials being put out by Warby Parker glasses.

The weird part is that at least in some of the photos, the blue/brown looks remarkably like the new Pel LE called "Stone Garden":

Huh. I hadn't put that together, but yes, it does look similar.

I do wonder how many manufacturers of acrylics/ebonites there are and how often there is overlap. Just a difference in final polishing/assembly.

Calamus, was there a Jinhao in that box a while back?

Yes indeed. However, the operative word was "bought." I've never bought a Chinese fountain pen.

No, wait. I did once, after all. It just wasn't a Chinese brand. It was a low-end Cross manufactured in China. I didn't like it, though, and returned it.

The Jinhao you slipped into your ink bomb turned out to be a surprisingly pleasant writer after I used it for a while, although it was a little draggy at first. Also the clip started to spin freely, and it looked like it was going to take a proprietary nutdriver to tighten it back up, but I was able to Mickey Mouse it with a discarded dental tool my dentist had given me, so it's back in fighting form again. Also, it's found its way into my regular rotation. So thank you.

Moonmans (Moonmen?) that resemble Pelikans. One (Moonman) similar to the (Pelikan) Renaissance Brown and one (Moonman) similar to the (Pelikan) Stone Garden, etc.

The point I was trying to make was that rather than the brown Moonman sometimes looking like a Pelikan Renaissance Brown and sometimes looking like a Pelikan Stone Garden, there are, in fact, two different styles of brown Moonman.

I guess the posts going between Jon and I (Jon times two!) alluded to that fact: we both bought the Moonman that looks like the Ren Brown Pel, and then I mentioned the other Moonman color that looks like the Stone Garden.

It doesn't stop there, at least for 'common' materials: Moonman has a material that looks *very much* like the white/red celluloid known as "Koi". Some of the companies, like this one, are making good strides to creating their own look, but it is to be expected, I suppose, that they will still mimic other successful looks.

I for one never cared if a pen is a "school pen" or whatnot. If a pen is aesthetically pleasing to my eyes, comfortable to write with, and I can restore/repair/tune so it writes excellently, it's a good pen in my book. :)

Pretty and I never really saw the 221 as a 'school' pen, the one I had, had a rather springy/flex-ish nib, it was nice, I just didn't care for the cartridge/converter. (I would think the 3xx tier would be closer to a 'school' pen).

I have a 225 (Platinated cap, platinum coated nib, piston filling, http://pens.kbeezie.com/post/montblanc-225/ ), the 220 isn't much different than having the striated plastic cap and barrel.

My 221 also has a soft, springy nib. Wonderful feel. A little line variation, no flex really plus I don't want to crack the hood. The shape, grip, weight, balance are all terrific.

I keep coming back to it. It's the only pen I hesitate to put test ink into because I can't be without it for more than a few days. :D Heck, I just bought a bottle of MB Permanent Black just for this one pen.

Just to clarify - it wasn't despached until 14th Feb, after a bit of reminding on my part. I am expecting it any day now.

Been a bit naughty and got this for a song.

I think it is a standard English Parker Duofold. It is an aerometric.

It also will arrive (eventually) with a ?button filling version? that lacks the innards, the clip and a cap tassie (but hey, the pen was included in the deal).

The nibs are these (working pen at the bottom). No idea what width these are though.

This is likely to be my last eBay pen purchase, and was really only entered into because it was dead cheap. I have no confidence in eBay sellers anymore, which is probably good all things considered.

These Newhaven Duofolds are tremendous value for money. Without seeing the rest of the pen I can't tell which type of button filler the other one is but by the look of it, I suspect it's an AF. The missing parts are relatively easy to come by.

I buy in eBay constantly and I find that there are many excellent sellers. Compared with a few years ago, buyers are very well supported if anything goes wrong.

I'll post more pictures when they get here. The button filler one didn't have a picture showing the button, but I could see where the blind cap joined the body.

Yes, buyers are supported well in the event of things going wrong, but the sheer frustration of time and distance in such circumstances (remember I live on a remote island) leads me to the conclusion that unless something is "throwaway" cheap it's just not worth the risk. And I've been burned quite a few times, even from supposedly reputable sellers. So, no. Unless I see a killer deal I will keep my tiny collection stocked with mostly modern pens bought from proper outlets. It's just how I feel about it all.

I've been wanting a Waterman Hemisphere Lux Saphir since I first found out about the pen a year ago.

As stocks depleted prices went up so I hesitated. I saw last night that Amazon has them listed for significantly less than I've been seeing for a long time. So one is on its way!

Just ordered this white Pelikan M205 from Germany. I've been thinking about getting a Pelikan for ages, and I'm finally pulling the trigger on one. Up until now I've been getting mostly Japanese pens, but a Lamy and a Nemosine found their ways into my hands recently, and now I want to explore German nibs.

I am waiting for a 192x Parker Lady Duofold in red hard rubber and a 190x De La Rue Onoto, both of which went off for refurbishment a couple months ago. These will be the last pens I acquire.

Nice. I have an M205 on my shortlist as well. Would you mind posting where you purchased from and, also, a brief review? I'd really be interested in hearing how you like it.

I bought it on eBay from missing-pen (aka Rolf Thiel) in Germany. He has a perfect 100% feedback rating. The pen was $119 and change plus $9.95 for shipping to the US. He has all sorts of German pens, new and vintage. I'll be glad to post how I like it once it arrives and I get a chance to try it out.

Looking forward to seeing the modern OM compares with the handful of old Artus pens with OMs and OBs

These have arrived today, though I'll have to wait until I get back from work to test them. With the aerometric (complete) Duofold I had intended (if it was a suitable candidate) to send it to Pendleton Brown for a stubbing. However, it seems that the nib already has stubbish tendencies.

As for the other pen, the blind cap removed reveals a brass (?) button filler. Unfortunately whatever goes inside a button filler (and somebody can please enlighten me on what this might be) is missing. So I have body, section, nib, feed, and cap (missing clip and cap tassie). This nib alos looks stubby and slightly oblique.

Anywho, photos in a few hours!

Your pen with what appears to be brass is an Aluminium Filler. To make the pen work you only need a pressure bar and sac. The clip and cap tassie should not be too difficult to source.

How is the pressure bar fitted? I have only seen the type that are used with lever fillers.

The button looks like this - (edit: not an AF)

Is this restoration something that I could do myself without specialist tools? Or should I send it to someone?

Alternatively. I could use the nib from this one in a custom pen.

Just had a bit of a result on the BayofEvil, took a punt on a badly described with even worse photographs, just Described as a Bont Mont fountain pen, (their spelling) thought I could just make out the stripes of an ink window, it didn't look wide enough for a 149 so was hoping for a 146, ended up winning for just over £100 and absolutely mint 146, turned up by next day delivery, which wasn't included in the auction, he only charged £1 For postage. a nice result for a change.

You're right, it's not an AF. If there is no pressure bar you can just unscrew the section. Normally, when a pressure bar is in place, one removes the button and pulls out the pressure bar before removing the section. Fit a size 18 sac cut to the appropriate length, let the shellac cure and screw the section back in. Introduce the pressure bar from the other end and refit the button. That's it!

The section pulls out, it is not a screw fit. Shellacking a new sac is not a problem. However, there is no obvious way that the button can be removed from that end. So I cannot fathom how the pressure bar goes in. It's starting to look like a sendaway job or possibly a salvage operation to repurpose the nib.

Edit: the aerometric and complete pen has - I would gauge -a medium stub nib, and the pen that needs restoring has a broad stub with some interesting flex!

You have to pull the button out. It requires a little force. I'm surprised to hear that the section is not threaded. Would it be possible to see a photo of the whole of the pen? I had assumed that it was a Duofold, which has a screw-in section.

Applied some increasing traction to the button. It doesn't feel as though it's going to be removable that way. And here' quick and dirty picture of the section removed from the barrel (neither have threads, apart from those that the cap uses).

If you're having difficulty removing the button, slide the tips of needle-nose pliers underneath it, then press upward with your hand. I can't tell from that photo what fountain pen you have.
