Hi all,

Hard rubber pens, I love 'em! And every now and then I actually offer
some for sale. I have quite a few HR pens in my collection, filigrees,
full metal overlays, black, Ripples, wood grain, red hard rubber,
chased, plain. Although most of them do not have the fantastic colors
of plastic pens, if you are not as familiar with them as you are
celluloid pens, you might be surprised by the variety of them. I
decided I would put a whole list of them together this time.

With the exception of the Waterman's Olive Ripple No. 94 set, these
pens have all been restored inside and out, and are ready to fill with
ink and write.

If you see one or more pens that you like, please E-mail me at:

If you intend to make a purchase, please read "Rules, shipping,
etcetera" at the bottom of this post.

4. c. 1927 Waterman's No. 52 in red and black wood grain hard
rubber. The imprints on the barrel are very worn. Also there is a bit
of bubbling of the gold along the edge of the clip next to the rivets,
on one side. The cap band has a very thin line of brassing along the
top edge, where it is typically found. Under magnification I found one
tiny speck of brassing on one side of the clip ball. There is one spot
of brassing on the edge of the lever tab. The pen has a nice polish and is
quite attractive. The nib is a very smooth writing Flexible Fine that
borders on medium. I would NOT call it a wet noodle, as it takes a bit
of light pressure to achieve a broad line. I was going to replace the
ink sac, but it already had a fresh sac in it, when I checked it. I
took several photos of this one to show the wood grain pattern. Capped
the pen measures 5 5/16 inches or 13.6 cm.

Price $195.00 shipping with insurance included in the U.S. Foreign shipping
see "Rules, Shipping, Etc." below.

5. c. 1928 Waterman's No. 52 fountain pen in black chased hard rubber,
in the original box, with four page instruction sheet with parts price
list. This is probably the nicest example of a BCHR 52 I have ever
offered for sale. The only damage I found are some very light
scratches on the barrel end from the cap being posted. The pen is
shiny black and almost looks like it came from the factory yesterday.
The chasing is deep and the barrel imprint is deep with sharp, crisp,
raised edges. The nib is a very smooth writing semi-Flexible Fine 14K.
A broad line can be achieved with moderate pressure. This is a
collector grade pen.

Price reduced to $245.00 shipping included in the U.S. Foreign shipping
see "Rules, Shipping, Etc." below.

6. circa 1876 MacKinnon stylographic fountain pen. Yes, you read the
date right circa 1876! The MacKinnon pens were the first commercially
successful fountain pens. They were invented and marketed by Duncan
MacKinnon, 200 Broadway, New York City, N.Y. This pen is made of black
chased hard rubber, with gold filled chased and repousse' cap, barrel
end and barrel band. The pen measures 4 13/16 inches or 12.3 cm. The
hard rubber barrel and section have some light discoloration. The
barrel chasing is deep and distinct. The barrel is imprinted, next to
the barrel end "D. MacKinnon Pat. Mar. 21, 76". I did ink test the
pen, and it writes a light colored line of ink. I did not fool around
with it too much to see if I could get it to write better, figuring
most people would not want to write with it anyway. I did disassemble
the pen and clean it. It has the original weighted wire, that
protrudes very slightly from the tip, which is supposed to help the
ink flow correctly. These are fairly hard to find pens, and this one
is different than the other two MacKinnons I have owned. It has a slip
cap on the tip, instead of a screw on cap, and the chasing pattern is
different than any I have seen.

Price $195.00 shipping included in the U.S. Shipping to other
countries is $20.00 extra, for Express International Mail.
