So, I've been looking for this thread for a while. Ever since seeing SBRE's desk video I thought it would be fun to see others. There are loads of these types of shots online with huge computer rigs or standing desk but I think this community could bring something to the table. Please post yours and try to show how you keep your pens & ink if possible so it will be as on topic as possible. So, without further ado, here is mine at my office:

@jeph I agree heath's desk is too neat and organized and you know what they say about a neat desk. I believe your's is an organized catastrophe. Just my opinion, mine is a combination of the two and will one day remember to take a photo.

It looks like you have a new TWSBI notebook as well but I can't place the leather one. Is it a journal or a book?

The leather one on top of the magazine is a custom made cover for the Midori system. Not Midori, but fits their large inserts (it has more elastics in the back, doesn't have the knot in the middle of the back cover, etc.

The one on the left is mine, the one on the right is a new one I am setting up for a client. One of my companies does IT for small businesses. That being said, I have multiple computers in my offices but they are in different areas. I prefer the minimalism of a single laptop to the side on my main desk.

I could try that, but I am not even sure where all of my tools are. Or, more accurately, I am not even sure what tools I own. For that matter, I don't even know what pens I own. Even worse, I don't even know all of the pens that I own that I have repaired. I just tried to remember, and not counting the pens waiting for corks (and no, I have no idea how many beyond more than 10) I am not even sure what pens I am currently working on. In fact I just had to look to find out what pens I am currently carrying. Clearly I need an organizational standdown until I can get things back under control. I wanted to say that I will not work on any more pens until I can take a picture of a clean work area ready to receive pens but I know that it will never happen. Sometimes you just need to embrace the chaos.

I have a wonderful old desk that belonged to my grandfather that has been refinished and has a piece 1/4" smoked glass on the top to protect it. For several years it has been a "junk gatherer". I need to get rid of some of the junk on it so I can actually use it. (grandpa died in 1959 and used it in his plumbing business for years - yes the center drawer has ink stains - :) )

I did snap a shot of how I left my work area as I left for Christmas vacation. I took the picture to shame myself, but I can't do that unless I share. I did not leave anythign soaking but the blue striped Markant is filled with water, as is the barrel of the the red marbled no-name pen standing up in the tub.

And the notebooks: Leuchtturm, RHODIA, Picadilly, Ciak, Moleskine (Starwars), Muji, Design.Y 288, and my prayer books. Like Jeph said... and especially when he was around... it's like this:

Rest assured Tracy Lee has an impressive output of letter writing from that desk.
Everything is overwatched by her Cat guardians ... they were worshipped as gods in ancient times and have not forgotten the fact.
But beware she sprinkles Visconti & Delta dust in those letter all so prepare your pen purchasing budget of a tsunami of Italian pens in the near future.

Tracy Lee, I have to thank you in a post. Your beautiful office space inspired me to take a little white metal table that was languishing in my garage, and put it in the library/office. Yes, it's much smaller than yours, but it fits my space and allows me to walk around it. Because I have a complex about that.

I got a little bit of my office function back with that table.

If I had a NY resolution, it might be, 'leave well enough alone.' Once, I had a huge pine rolltop desk in my workspace, but for whatever reason, I decided it had to go elsewhere. I keep trying to emulate its storage capacity with baskets and bult-ons, but I shoulda just kept it where it was.

The dining table has long since become my desk, and it is cluttered when not writing to prevent mischievous behavior of the cats when I am not around. I was also in the midst of reconfiguring some things in there when I took the picture. Trust me, I sit right there and write my missives. And I will neither confirm nor deny whether there is a vial or two of Italian pen dust.

Haha, no worries at all. The books, by the way, are a wide variety. Mostly fiction, but the back right corner contains all space related nonfiction and cookbooks. Back left is art and archaeology and cultural resource related nonfiction. One whole set of shelves is all of Stephen King's books. There is a travel section, a miscellaneous section, but that gives you a good idea of what is there.

Agreed. I'd wanted a Captain's/Davenport for a long time, but the antiques like this are hard to come by. The "knockoffs" are way too expensive for the cheap imitations they are. I was fortunate to get this one, the price was right, and the antiques dealer - out of state - put it on a truck that was already headed to California, so it had to come right by me anyway and I didn't get charged an arm and two legs for freight. Since he did that for me, I picked up the chair from him, too.

The dealer had - and still has - another Captain's/Davenport that is nice, but it doesn't have the detail of mine. Plus, the price is way over what I paid for mine. It is in pristine condition, though, whereas mine has a couple of flaws. I love mine, though. I keep checking back, even though I don't have any kind of discretionary income anymore, simply because I love his pieces. http://www.bargainjohn.com/product-category/furniture/

Sometimes I work at this old desk that I have stuffed to the gills and I love very much. More often, though, I work standing-up at this table top I installed which folds down out of the way. Someday it'd be nice to create a permanent standing workspace that will contain my piles. Until then, I put up the writing surface and make a temporary transfer of piles while I work, then put it all away again.

ypsilanti, I really like your desk. It is the type I was actually looking for in the used and thrift shops I visited for a space between my kitchen and living room. The space is narrow, and I want function there. Then I saw the ink desk, and couldn't walk away from it for the price. I'm still looking for something in that narrow space, though (on legs with a enough space for the vacuum and a couple of dog's dishes). It's going to be my entryway table/desk, where I can drop my bags and bills.

Tracy Lee I didn't even see your by-line by this post! Sorry for not recognizing you. I just saw the photos of the room and immediately sat down and wrote a letter. Mainly in jest with my Maryland accent.

I have two drop-leaf desks with cubbies (one a repro, one an "antique" that would not pass muster with the Kenos because of all the fixes that have been made to it). I like them, but I don't really work at them. I usually work at a work space some enterprising person designed out of a bar area in the living room of my house. Or I work at the kitchen table. In fact, in many ways the kitchen table is my favorite place to work (maybe because it has the largest work space, or more likely for nostalgic reasons.

My desk is a J.F. Dietz #3 banker's desk. My wife purchased it as a gift to me a couple of years ago and currently it is not this neat :lazy: It was manufactured in Cincinnati circa 1910-1920, and it measures 72" W x 38" D. The hutch and desktop come off the base, and when the drawers are removed it's surprisingly easy to move. But assembled, it ain't moving!

I used to maintain a full office in my home. Had a desk and credenza, etc. Now, I got ride of the desk and the surface of the credenza is limited. So, I now write on my dining room table and I like this set up a lot. I have plenty of surface to spread out with my paper, books, pens, etc. When I'm done, I can put everything away easily and have a clean table again. I still need to get a writing pad or blotter or something.

Behind me to the right there is a stash of paper notebooks almost my height.

Behind me in the centre there is a printer and a few small stashes of ink samples and pens for repair. On the floor 2 cases with my pen repairs tools and a couple more stashes of books of the same subjects on top of an empty box of beer bottles.

If you do not believe me, ask Jeph. :)

It is! I've taken many a study-break nap (both intentional and otherwise) in that chair. It was a gift from the academic dean (my former theology prof). The president of the college got new office furniture, so the academic dean got his hand-me-downs, and I got the chair before the vp of student affairs knew what was going on.

P.S. for the record, I do not smoke (apart from the occasional cigar-during warm months, and always outside). The ashtray belonged to my paternal grandfather. Now it has spent matches in it from lighting candles, but the best use I had for it was some 10-12 years ago when I used it to hold trail mix to keep my daughter occupied while I was trying to do my college coursework.

Here is my writing space. I churn out way too many postcards from here.

And my rack of inked pens:

It most certainly is.

I filled several more pens for the Central Penn Pens meeting and added them until the rack was full of fountain pens. It'll make this more fun.

Left to right, top photo:
- black Parker 51 factory BB double jewel with hand-hammered sterling cap by Rick Krantz,
- gray Parker Vacumatic pencil with ballpoint conversion by Carl Seidl (Pens of Dis-Ink-Tion)
- marine green Balance senior lever-filler with EF flex nib
- Montblanc Proust with F nib, just back from Hamburg
- black lifetime Snorkel with wide band and very smooth F conical nib
- BCHR Conklin 40 crescent-filler with gold band and EF flex nib
- red and black mottled HR Swan MabieTodd (NYC) Eternal 44 with factory stub nib
- Montblanc 100th Anniversary heritage rollerball
- chrome and cordovan lifetime Snorkel with smooth M open nib
- turquiose Spencerian (made by Conklin) with F flex nib
- woodgrain HR Wahl-Eversharp Personal Point with Gregg cap and EEF flex nib
- very early mottled HR Conklin crescent-filler with No. 5 EF flex nib
- early Weidlich BHR with GF overlay matchstick-filler with EF flex nib

Rotating the rack 180 degrees reveals two more pens in the second photo:

- pearl and black Sheaffer Balance OS with unusual M flex nib
- BCHR Conklin 4NL crescent-filler with wide gold engraved filigree band and EF flex nib

I write with them all, except the marine green Balance needs a bit of tweaking the nib and feed for better flow.

Back in there somewhere I noted an open humidor with pens spread out across the top lift out tray. That's a cool idea. I've got a number of humidors I could convert and use the open area in the bottom to store boxed bottles of ink. I like it.

Lovely roll top desk, I had wanted one of these so badly years ago.

1975 Ethan Allen (same year I was born) picked up at an estate sale 6 years ago for almost nothing.

So...the Anatomy Coloring Book...? I'm thinking it's reference and you're working on a crime novel?

Hahaha. Nursing student, I decided to change career paths a couple years ago and went back to school. But yours sounds way more interesting.

Hi Timl,
Which item in the photo are you looking at? There is a lot there. In one of the little square spaces on the left is a FC 2 pen holder and a 3 pen holder on the other side of Virgil. Thanks..

I do have another small desk in the master bedroom. It serves as a major storehouse for stationary, and I don't sit at it as often as my bigger desk in the spare bedroom (above).

My work desk.

https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20181018/f6088c2d4b63cb907ac0ee54638b9f59.jpg

I take a lot of work notes via bullet journalling (left).

I rarely use my Western Electric 302 but it works and even dials out (after refurbishing and adjusting the dialer).

The pens out today on my 3d printed stand are MB 221, Skyline, "51", Jinhao 8802, and Wahl Ringtop. I made the dip pen holder on my micro lathe. It is sporting an Esterbrook 048 Falcon.

Good to see a range of ink brands - Pilot, Diamine, Pelikan, Herbin, De Atramentis... and interesting fact the rotary phone still works - phonegeeks.com might soon be a thing!!

In my case, a serious clearing won't do :D
More like a major undertaking. See, I test my restored pens in the same desk, so part of my desk is buried with pens and pen parts, not to mention my tools and restoration supplies. My wife bought me a small rolling cart which helps somewhat.
