Some pics of very rare vintage Pelikan accessories from the late 1930s

Lucked out and was able to purchase two very rare items for my vintage Pelikan collection: a retail luxury pen case meant for the 100 or very early (1938) 100N and the accompanying mechanical pencil set (Etui R), and a NR. 4 pen stand, both in matching silver-mottled black bakelite.

Since their manufacturing was limited to just a few years (or perhaps to 1938 only) they are exceedingly rare finds.

Those silvery bits do not translate that well in photos but they do glimmer in light very nicely.

I already had three different variants of the pen stand in black, so this was a really wonderful, and functional addition to my desk (yes, I like to keep them in use).

At time of bidding I was not sure whether the silver streaks on the box were original or maybe some kind of chemical reaction within the Bakelite. But the fact that you also found a desk stand with the same silver streaks indeed suggests that it is an original pattern. Very interesting.

AH! Yeah, that can happen when the knowledgeable few are bidding on items that are rare (I've been on the losing bidder side a number of times). :)

The available colors were listed in those catalog scans, namely:

Braun / Brown,
Schwarz / Black,
Schwarz-Silber / Black-Silver, and
Schwarz-Grün / Black-Green
for the case,

and

Schwarz / Black,
Grün-Silber / Green-Silver,
Rot-Gold / Red-Gold,
Schwarz-Silber / Black-Silver, and
Schwarz-Grün / Black-Green
for the pen stand.

I've seen a red one also, sadly, some German fellow had bought a three-pack of those stands, two black and a red one, for 50€, an hour or two earlier... 🙄
