Hi everybody!

Here are two questions to some of the Sheaffer experts out there. I have received this Sheaffer about 8 years ago and dont know its model. Its all plastic and pretty light.

First question: Could anybody help identifying the model?

Second question: I also have a frustrating problem with it: the cap won’t hold on the pen in its regular position (nib-end of the pen going into cap). When I turn the pen down – the cap just falls off. This makes it almost impossible to put in a bag and carry somewhere because the cap will fall off and the ink dries out or spills out of the pen. I desperately need to fix this issue as there is nothing wrong with the most important parts of the pen - the feed or nib. Would you have any advice for me? Is it at all possible to fix?

Looks to me like a Javelin. Here's mine.

It looks like the rubber grip is too far down towards the nib. That is keeping the cap from gripping the pen where it should. Try pulling the grip back into place. It actually looks like your grip is torn. This was one of the weak points of this pen.

Yep, a Javelin. I have two in translucent plastic colors. I went on a search similar to yours to identify the pen a few years ago because I quite like them! The plastic versions hold a LOT of ink as eyedroppers...

Thanks for the advice. Looks like something like a ring is missing just at the area where the section meets the barrel. Should be about 1mm wide can just put my nail in there. That is also exactly the place where the cap needs something to hold on. Could you guys please check at your pens whether there is anything at the described area? Thanks in advance!

The rubber grip looks ok to me. I tryed pulling it up, put it felt unnatural and didnt work in the end. I think there is nothing wrong with my rubber grip, unless I am totally confused...

Here's a closer look. Bottom pen.

See how the rubber on yours is covering that groove near the nib? That's where the cap grabs on to the section and clicks to stay closed. Yours is blocked by the rubber section grip. Just pull it up. Feels like I'm telling a kid to pull his pants up. :P

Mine is translucent blue. Would love to convert it to ED, although I have never done it and i dont know how to do that. So will have to watch some videos on youtube I suppose.....

By the way I assume mine has been manufactures in Japan as it says "Japan" on the right side of the clip.

KrazyIvan first of all thank you for a fast reply. When trying to pull the rubber up the section, the rubber glides bsck to its pisition on the picutre. Then I tryed to take it off totally and indeed now when putting the cap on the pen I can hear a clear "click" when the cap grabs the section. However the hold is really very weak and its extremely easy to remove the cap unintentionally which makes it impossible to travel with this pen.

Do you think its because of the wear of the pen over the years? Can anything be done to fixit?

Another thing is that i want to put the rubber grip back and when i do so it covers the groove near the nib which prevents the cap from clicking on to the pen. If i pull up the rubber, then either it glides back to its position on the initial pictures or if i pull it up even more, the section gets so fat tht the cap will not fit on the pen.

Probably its a good idea to measure the length of the rubber grip and compare it with yours. This could also tell if my grip is torn.

Lengh: 20mm
Diameter at the nib end: 10mm
Diameter at the barrel end: 11mm

I also tried to rotate the grip and switch ends so that the nib end of the rubber would become the barrel end vise versa. Didnt help.

If it's not holding well, when the grip is off, the inner cap is part of the issue too. It is probably worn down. Repairs are probably not worth it as the pen goes for around $20-$35 NOS. maybe contacting Sheaffer for a new cap or putting out a wanted advert in the classifieds is in order.
