Extra Fine Nib Ink Review: Kakimori Kurun

This is review #254 in my series. Here's the YouTube video:

https://youtu.be/XUzRX63n40w

Post-recording notes: This was a gift sample from a generous FPNer. Cleaning was easier than usual for a permanent ink. Only when the ink had had a chance to dry did it require scrubbing. Otherwise, your usual routine plus some soaking should be enough. I don't know how to describe the color of this green other than slightly muted. :) The microscope image was unexciting, so it's not included. Dry time in test was just over 60 seconds. Dry time in the review was over 90 seconds. So I went with 105 seconds as a guess and am calling it good enough. :) I labeled "Shading" as "Low", but on most papers, it's nonexistent.

Zoomed in photo (The color really isn't right. The green I see is brighter. Funny how the camera rendered parts of some strokes as grey.)

Screenshot (Text is too dark. Green is a little off, but better than the magnified photos.)

Scan of Completed Review (This one is actually pretty close to what my eyes see. Go by this for color.)

Absorbent Paper Close-up (top is puzzle paper like thick newsprint, bottom is old 20lb copy paper) (Both are off in color, but in ways I don't know how to describe. These are still closer than the zoom.)

Line width (One of the lines used for dry time. Magnification is 100x. The grid is 100x100µm. The scale is 330µm, with eleven divisions of 30µm each. The line width for this ink is roughly 270µm. With 254 inks measured, the average line width is 295µm.)

Water Test Results (Color is still too dark and muted.)

Hmmmm….. permanent. Dry. Low lubrication. Hard to read.

Let me think… no, guess not. Though I always look forward to reading your reviews and story, and, well, it's like testing inks I don't have to buy, so, win!

Liz, thanks once again for my Tuesday Treat!

Great review @LizEf :thumb:
I would've thought Essrie would getting dizzy and not Makhabesh:
"Fathter, Fathter," Essri squealed with joy.
"I get dithzy when I fly"
"Aw, you thpeak thnek!"
"Snek,"
Spellcheck doesn't like Snek language We should add it as a language :pound:
As for the ink, I said my piece on the other side. I truly dislike inks that take their sweet time to dry. They're the worst in my book. I think I'll use mine in a brush pen....it'll finish faster :D

Ooo! Yes. Excellent idea. And it would be simple as all get-out. A few logical rules to turn all the "s" sounds into "th" and we're done! :D

:) I don't pay attention to dry times since I'm writing and use blotting paper as bookmarks, and I'm right-handed. They're just never an issue for me. But I can totally understand how they would be for others. Apparently, those others should avoid the desert...

At one point I imagined Snek cussing /cuthing in Snek. He can get away it, as everyone would find it cute, I hope

Oooh! It must be Tuesday.

I love this ink - though I'm not convinced I've ever used it in a fountain pen. I use it a lot with a dip pen and brushes for drawing, so I'm perhaps not the best judge of its failings. Like all the Kakamori inks, it's the colour that won me over. Not to mention the gorgeous little bottle...

A someone one can barely manage a child-speed merry-go-round, and having a pathological fear of falling down a flight of steps, the idea of a twister dive down a dim staircase sounds like my idea of theme park hell. I look forward to finding out what's through the archway, though.

I love the idea of snekspeak curthing. It should definitely be available on google translate.

:D I expect they would, but... There will be no cuththing in my thtory. It'th thtricktly rated-G (except for the occasional violence...). Of course, you and your imagination are free to do as you wish.

:) Thank you. It helps to know all the ins and outs of an ink - lots of folk like these permanent inks for art.

:) I recommend you stick with Quin - he's moving much slower. ;)

:D Perhaps we need to make up some unique-to-sneks curses (they don't all lisp, you may recall) and then Essri can use those (rather than human vulgarity which I'm not adding - our world is too vulgar already, I decline to add to that).... Fantasy authors often come up with curses unique to their words (that aren't vulgar to our ears). Must ponder...
