Hello all,
I have for sale an early 1950s Montblanc 149. This is a very nice version with the following features marking it as an early pen:
Celluloid body (amber ink window)
Piston knob with "149" and "M"
Silver thin rings on pen cap
Ivory-coloured "white star" on the cap
Telescopic filler
Ski slope ebonite feed with grooves
Condition of the pen
Body. The body was replaced with a "new" one due to damage it had sustained in its long life. Horst Max Schrage did the work. The new body has no personalisation or damage of any kind. The ink window is ambered, but the ink level is easily visible. Stripes are still present on the window.
Piston knob. The imprints are clear, and have been cleaned. There is some gilding present.
Filler. The telescopic two-stage filler works very nicely with a new cork. The pen takes a good load of ink and writes very well.
Nib. The nib is a medium, recently tuned by Mike Masuyama. The 1950s medium is more like a modern medium-fine. The nib is soft and very satisfying to write with. Some line variation is possible, but this is not a flex nib.
Feed. There is very slight damage to the feed fins where the feed goes into the body. Since this does not affect function and these feeds are very rare, it has been retained upon the pen. Please see the photo of this area for more details.
Cap. Original white star, now more like ivory. The cap rings are in good shape and tight to the cap. The central ring says "Montblanc Masterpiece" indicating that this was an export model.
This is an opportunity to obtain a very sought-after pen in great ready-to-write condition. I'm happy to answer any questions or provide more pictures for seriously interested people.
I've adjusted the price for the last time to $2100. This is a heck of a deal for one of these gorgeous pen. I'll even throw in a free Gallen Leather sleeve.
