The blue & white caught my eye. Is it faceted? Does the white bulb on the end have a dual purpose? Grab an inner cap liner? Is it all one piece of acrylic, or?

Welcome to the Forum, Phil!

Those are some very cool and original pieces there. I like all of them, but the one with burl wood (maple?) and black resin is just gorgeous!

Hoping to see more of your work (and resins!) here in the future!

I think the last one is my favorite but they all look nice. Thanks for sharing!

Also, I am in CA too. We're probably not that far apart. Do you have a shop or sell these locally?

Thanks all,

Ken: that is box elder burl. I hope to get a few casts made for pens maybe even an opal ;-). It has taken a good while to get these figured out.

Heath: I have a website( www.philspenstudio.weebly.com ) that I am terrible about updating, I have not approached any shops as of yet about displaying my pens. I am in Shelby Co if that helps.

I am really liking that first one. I like the combination of the blues, greens, and tans on the cap, which seems a little loud. I have seen this material before and really like it. The all black pen barrel comes in and tames it all down. The first thing I would do to it is install an all black nib and clip. That's just me. :D

I am fairly new to the game but I sure would appreciate the lead on the black nibs and clips. I have an idea for one that those would be wicked looking on.

I'm not a pen maker and was just thinking out load. I am not sure where you could get wholesale black nibs. Retail, Goulet Pens sells the Monteverde black nibs. An example: http://www.gouletpens.com/Monteverde_Broad_Black_Steel_Nib_p/mvssnib-blk-b.htm

They are No. 6 sized nibs.

I remember Edison Pen Co. getting some limited stock of titanium nibs which look cool too. JoWo was the manufacturer but I think they stopped making them.

Sounds interesting, I know a guy who does some anodizing. I may enlist his expertise and have some done in several colors(if he thinks its possible)

Cool! Box Elder is also known as the 'Manitoba Maple' - and I can certainly attest to the fact that there are a LOT of those around here. I keep pilfering bits off a friend of mine's massive MM burl stump that he took out a couple of years ago. Made a cool Christmas decoration out of some last year :-)

Cheers,

Ken

Nice craftsmanship and good looking pens.

Some Platinum Preppy fountain pens come in a range of coloured nibs to match the ink cartridge the come with such as red, pink, purple, green, blue, black and I think yellow or orange.
Maybe showing him one of these pens nibs could help.

Great! The picture says it all! Excellent collections. I own a few custom made pens specially designed for me from www.Halo.com (https://www.halo.com/). They are stunning and impressive too
