I originally posted this on my blog. If you want to see all the images you can find it here: http://penpaperinkletter.com/miquel-rius-notebook-review-hemisphere-4-subject/
I picked up this Miquel-Rius notebook because I wanted a notebook specifically for NaNoWriMo. It was a very unassuming 4 subject notebook on the bottom shelf in a sea of other wirebound school notebooks. It wasn't the cheapest one at just under $7 but it had a 4 part system that I thought would suit me well. Without giving away the whole shebang I’ll go ahead and say this was a pleasant surprise.

Sometimes you just want a ruled wirebound notebook. This one has thick but flexible covers and a sturdy wire that look like they will hold up well. It has a 4 part color coded system that is easy to use yet doesn’t add bulk. Each of the four sections are coded with a thick solid line at the outside paper edge and the corresponding sections keep the color of the line in their title box, ruled lines and logo at the bottom of the page. Each notebook on the shelf had a different color stripe on the front over but all of them had the same Blue, Red, Grey, Green setup inside.

Each page starts with a title box above where ruling would normally start so it doesn’t take away from the usable space in my opinion. I like it as it is a bit unique and keeps titling or dating pages in a consistent location. Below the title box is a standard wide lined page. Each page is perforated and punched for traditional 3 ring binders which I like.

I had no expectations that this paper would be fountain pen friendly but from my brief testing I was very wrong. I had no bleed through with any pen, even a 2.4mm Pilot Parallel. There was no show through until I got to flex pens! I think with a fine or potentially even medium nib fountain pen you could still get away with using both sides of the page which is saying a lot for this unassuming 4 subject notebook. It is a 70 g/m paper so it makes since that it would hold up to some extent but I’ve had others in this category fail completely. For example also, this paper seems to hold up better than Moleskine notebooks with fountain pens.

In conclusion, this was a great buy. It’s probably not a steal for the price but at this price for a fountain pen friendly one you can’t go wrong. I’d heartily recommend this to anyone and for a student I’d grab a few!

I picked this one up from Target but couldn’t find it on Target.com. I think I found one on B&N’s website but it wasn’t the same SKU so I won’t link it. I may go back to my target and pick up a few more while I know they have them as I think this might also be good for when I start teaching my sons to write with fountain pens as they are already wide ruled and we could use double lines easily. If you’ve seen these available online elsewhere please let me know
