Josh aka quinden's post of his Newton Orange Band pen (http://fpgeeks.com/forum/showthread.php/4585-Newton-Pens-Orange-Bands-Custom), made me realize I hadn't posted my Slug yet.

My pen is a little different than Josh's, ay? Mine is less formal and more whimsical. The "smile factor" is huge on this little pen. Ebony and cream acrylic, with some red veins through in.

Plus Shawn is such a joy, IMHO, to engage with. I ended up ordering two caps for my pen. I prefer clipless pen. But since I take my Newton pen traveling, I realized a clip was more practical out of town. I went back to Shawn months later for the clipped cap, and after sending him my pen, he turned the second cap around for me pretty quickly.

The steel JoWo F nib is really good, and Shawn tuned it to my preferences. I've struggled with modern steel nibs, and usually forgo them. (Vintage steel nibs like a good Esterbrook nib, are far more to my liking.)

The pen is small enough, I usually carry it in my jeans pocket sans clip.

I will say that custom pens are as addicting as any other fountain pen path. I'm very tempted to add a Ken Cavers pen (http://kcavers.blogspot.com/), or a Scriptorium pen (http://scriptoriumpens.com/)... *ouch* And I still have an Edison Menlo to save up for. While you can spend hundreds (thousands) of dollars with some of the boutique pen makers, there are still affordable options with a lot of wonderful pen turners.

Of course I wax on about the pen and why I call it a Banana Slug on my blog. (http://peaceablewriter.wordpress.com/2013/11/01/tale28/) I can't sing Shawn Newton's (http://newtonpens.wordpress.com/) praises enough! Being a great guy isn't a reason to buy a pen, but it sure makes for a good experience, ay?

Cheers,
Julie

Julie - That's the prettiest slug I've ever laid eyes on.

But, I'm not much of a gardener...

Me neither, Jack! An avid hiker, though.

Thanks everyone, for the kind comments.
