Entrance at the back. The main hall was being used for another venue: A Jewelry auction! There were lots of confused bidders lol.

Lefthand side of the hall, this was a bit quiet after the raffle at noon.

Bargain bin on the left. Nice Italians on the right, OMAS Deltas and Auroras, St Duponts on the far left.

Melbournians, please add your own pics of the show and of course the damage pics. I will with mine, as soon as the pens come out of the bath :)

Comments are most welcome!!

I would be jealous even if I did not already known what you left there with!

Thanks Tony.

Gee, I wish I didn't live 1200 kilometers from the only pen show in the country!!

And I wish I knew about it earlier so I could've planned a trip. (I'm currently on leave!!)

That's true too. 1200 km isn't impossible, but it is with only two days notice.

And I wish I did not live across the world literally.

Many thanks for the pictures. Unlike London's show it seems that at least there was enough space for one to look around.

Only 12 hours doing 100 kph non-stop. Pity my co-driver is on the other side of the world.

Looks well laid out and very civilized unlike the Bendigo Wool&Sheep Show.
And there were Viscontis (& OMAS & Deltas) there too.

Damage #1

http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3683/11083103465_367c152f07_c.jpg

Saw it on the last year show. It was so dirty and beat up, no one even touched it. It comes with factory blemish as well. The streak on the blind cap is the same celluloid as the barrel. No, it can't be buffed away! I love it.

To be continued..

It surely is not dirty now! And the blemish just means that you don't have to baby it anymore. Definately a score.

I can't believe you guys didn't go. I kept on guessing which one is kai, or cedargirl, or Bogon, or woosang, or daveyb, and so on. There was a guy with naka-ai, and another with floral CS, but no bling viscontis :)

Anyway, here's damage #2:
http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7430/11100783215_557f5e3077_z.jpg

Sorry it took a while to show, because it was like this when being repaired. The cap had a deep engraving of the previous owner's Name and his suburb, Boronia, lol! It wasn't possible to hide it under the clip. Thus, the minor surgery:
http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7404/11095189706_5054ec272d_z.jpg

It wasn't easy, but I managed to take a pic of the 'blemish'
http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2810/11100960273_3811fe63f7_n.jpg

It's not so bad now for a daily toy pen.

To be continued.. (should I?)

Was it the same old yellowed floral CS?

Yep. Quite small.

Did you use something to fill in the engraving?

Yet another nice one. You are going to make me go back to ballpoints!

Yes mate. Initially resin but heck it was ugly. Then started over with hard shellac. That's another full thread if you want details.

LOL Jephster..

Stop rubbing it in!! I would have loved to - but as someone else mentioned, I only heard about it through a bulk email on the Thursday before and I'm on the north coast of NSW.

Anyway, at least we can see the photos and the booty!

You've got a great pen there, Tony. I just love the brown tortoiseshell; so far my Pelikans are all black, black/green and green striped. No that's a lie. I have a blue Pelikano Type 1.

I'd love to see more about your repair job. Did you document it?

Tony Rex

Yes I did take pics for documentation but they're rather boring tbh. I can tell you the steps if you want. Anyway, I promised to take photo of Damage #3 in daylight to jar:

Parker Duofold Geometric aka. “Toothbrush” http://www.richardspens.com/?page=ref/profiles/tbrush.htm

edit: I also bought some Ciak (Italian) notebooks like the above and RHODIAS, but this year's goodies weren't as good as last year's. Actually, notemaker's yearly warehouse sale is better for that.

To be continued.. (just one more pen from the show, and I bought it just to knock Jeph's socks off lol)

Hmm, tried it on a section before but it didn't come out so good. Should buff it a little more, maybe a more aggressive micromesh, anyway, thanks! :)

Hoping for next year and I'll plan something else to do in Melbourne too.

That is weird, becasue it was just recently (last 2 weeks) that I came across a picture of a toothbrush Parker. I though meh, that's stupid. That picture looks much better than the one I saw. That is a really good looking pen also. Forget ballpoints, maybe I should just grab a box of crayons.

Hope you like the grey crayon mate, condition as found :)

All done. This year's Melb show was heaps better than the previous, there were plenty more people and goodies, and it means nothing but good for this hobby.

I had intended to go again (I went in 2012) but a home server crash requiring a purchase of a MacMini Server, and adding a Canon EOS 6D DSLR & Macro lens to my camera kit bit hard into my FP purchasing fund so there was no point. I am definitely going again in 2014 (Hopefully the show will be on)

The details of the 2014 Melbourne Pens show will be posted on the Shows website at:
http://www.melbpenshow.com.au/

It is also placed on the Fountain Pen Network and if I remember it will be here on FPGeeks.com
Any other suggestions are welcome.

The 2014 Melbourne Pen Show is definitely a goer on Saturday, the First of November. This day is also
the part of the Melbourne racing season so interstate visitors can combine their pen passion with their
horse racing passion.

The venue for the Pen Show is at the back of the Malvern Town Hal which is the same as 2013. :)

In accordance with tradition, I expect the pre-show dinner will go also be held on the previous evening.
The details haven't been worked out yet, but will also on the above website. All FPGeeks are welcome.

Further details will be on the above website.

Cheers,
Bruce
