On a recent trip to Cambridge, I visited a wonderful leatherwork shop and picked up some lovely red leather, big enough to magic into an A5 size notebook. Does anyone know of a uk magic person to do this stuff or ideas for a DIY project? I'm okay with sewing but never attempted anything like this before, just pen wraps.

Thoughts please?

What did you have in mind, Annie? There are some good instructional materials on making Midori-like notebook covers, but something more structured might turn into quite an advanced project.

This chap (http://ianatkinson.net/leather/videos.htm) isn't taking orders until well into next year but has been good enough to share a series of "how to" videos, maybe thinking that it will all look daunting enough to encourage most people to engage his services rather than have a go for themselves. Shrewd man. If you scroll down to "Fabrication Videos" there's a couple of Moleskine covers.

Thanks Andy. Quite like the simplicity of the midori perhaps combining my favourite TWSBI notebook. The leather I have is big enough for this and maybe finding a way to secure the notebook and adding a tie or elastic closure. I'm still at the musing stage and want to keep this as simple as possible.

This is how I make mine and I really love the way it's made. Having 3 cords to hold notebooks is great and much more user friendly to me.

AND I really like the strap going through the center as it does not make a bulky spot in the middle of the back. It keeps the cords knot from being in the way.

I gave one from Leighs auction and she has some pics I sent to here on the site. It shows the inside as well.

Thanks for all the ideas. I have come up with a plan that I think will work. Pics if it turns out well, no pics if it doesn't.

Earthdawn those orange & black rubber cords (?) really catch the eye. :)

I'm fortunate enough to be the owner of one of Earthdawn's creations, and have to say that I honestly can't see how it could be improved, certainly for my purposes. The triple run of elastic for securing inserts makes life so much easier than fiddling about with elastic bands, Midori style, and the lack of a bump on the back cover can only be a good thing. That orange and black closure really looks the part too.
