HisNibs.com update -- Fountain pen restocking from China
March 30th, 2012

Greetings,

As promised in the last newsletter, a large re-stocking order from China was soon to be on its way, and it's now arrived. I'll mention a couple of pens here, but you can find all of them -- grouped alphabetically by manufacturer -- on the homepage http://www.hisnibs.com/. The ever-popular Uranus Multifunction pen arrived...but due to changes in DHL shipping shipping regulations, the ink had to be shipped separately via USPS! I hope to receive them in the next couple of days.

Also, I wanted to mention that this newsletter goes out to thousands of customers (July marks our 15th year of business), so please understand if there's a delay in answering your email queries or orders after one of these is sent. We will respond!

Facebook has mandated a design change to all of its pages this week. I'm not especially thrilled with the new format, but perhaps it will grow on me! Join us on our Facebook HisNibs.com fan page which can be reached directly at https://www.facebook.com/HisNibs1. Come join us for what has become a lively meeting place for news about pens, ink and handwriting.

Jinhao Wooden Chariot

This gorgeous pen is the first displaying Jinhao's new logo (even though I introduced the Celluloid series first), a stylized representation of a horse, chariot and two charioteers. This was inspired by the terracotta warriors found buried with the first Qin emperor of China, in the city of Xi'an. Hence the name.

This is an oversized pen, measuring 5-5/8" capped, 4-3/4" with cap held aside, and a theoretical 6-3/4" posted. I say theoretical because although some of the caps post on some of the pens, it's apparent that this wasn't really part of the design.

The sword-shaped clip is effectively married to the shield, with its enclosed logo. That logo is reprised on the insert at the top of the cap. The cap band is simply engraved with 'Jinhao'.

Crocodile Tooled Leather

The tooling is quite intricate and detailed, with the barrel chock full of gamboling crocodiles in various poses! Each side of the cap has 'Crocodile', 'Since 1952' and a larger member of the Crocodyidae family standing guard. Although leather, I do not believe that it's crocodile skin.

Duke Bamboo

http://www.hisnibs.com/DukeBambooCapPen2_small.jpg

"The Bamboo pen just arrived. I'm afraid my English is not good enough to describe how pleased I feel. From the gorgeous case to the clean writing: the pen itself is so beautiful, the feel in my hand while writing is that of something strong and delicate at the same time...Wonderful. Thank you."
C. M., Laredo, SPAIN

"By the way, the last two pens [he purchased a Duke Bamboo and Haolilai ZHF-101] were real beauties. I wasn't surprised, however, I have yet to be less than thrilled with your merchandise. This is unusual in this day in age, where disappointment is the norm."
J. S., Millville, NJ

"The Duke Bamboo pen arrived today. I've been using it for the last few hours, and I'm very pleased with it. It's as handsome a pen as I expected from the pictures on your website, but I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the nib as well. It writes very smoothly, even on lower quality paper (I tend to write in cheap composition books, which are hit or miss for fountain pens). Also--and I don't know whether this is a result of the nib's engineering, your adjustments, or both--it is one of only two pens I have used whose nibs do not creep when filled with my preferred Noodler's Inks (the other being a much pricier Sailor)."
E. J., Watertown, MA

"First of all, thank you very much for the Duke Bamboo pen that I ordered from you recently...I would like to say more fully that the pen is beautiful, exceptionally well made, and writes superbly (which I attribute in no small measure to your checking of each and every nib, especially going by my past experiences with nibs out of the box on far more expensive pens); and the whole buying experience is made a pleasure by your first class service and attention to detail."
M. F., United Kingdom

"I received the pen today. I must say, I am impressed!!! Very smooth out of the box. Great product!!! I will be shopping with you in the future!!! Thanks again."
J. G., New Bloomington, OH

"Hi Norman, a quick note to let you know the Baoer Black Rectangle FP and the 2 pen pouch came this morning. The quality of that Baoer is unbelievable. 20 bucks! come on....it's a $400 pen right? The pictures don't do it justice. The pouch, really nice. A quality piece that 2 "51"s found a home in. A couple more of these are defiantly in the near future. Thanks so much for the service."
J. F., Woburn, MA

"The Baoer Black Rectangle pen arrived today and has already been filled and set to work. I appreciate the heft and smooth nib. I am not sure that a M...B.... would write any better! Thanks too for the personal note.
Once again, kind regards from the land of the No 1 Ladies' Detective Agency."
C. L., Botswana

Picasso Candle Flame

"Dear Mr. Haase, thanks so much - I received my "Candle Flame" pen today. It's a real beauty. I usually like to try out a pen in the shop, so I wasn't sure how much to expect from one I bought online. I'm glad to report it writes wonderfully and feels great in my hand. I'll be keeping an eye on your website for new pens. You have a bunch of other interesting models, but it looks like they sell out pretty quickly - I'll have to stay on my toes. Thanks again and all the best!"
